Mike Tomlin‘s seat is already catching fire. After Ryan Clark‘s remarks, where he said that Tomlin has to find a new place and he has a stale voice, many experts are doubting the Steelers’ upcoming season and Tomlin’s future in the Steel City. The way the franchise is waiting for a 41-year-old QB, Aaron Rodgers, is keeping fans fuming over the negative traits of Tomlin and the organisation. And to add a different angle to the story, a former NFL scout has given Tomlin the best advice.

John Middlekauff, a former NFL scout, was on Colin Cowherd’s podcast on May 17. As always, Colin Cowherd was discussing Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers saga, and that’s when he highlighted a strong point. Colin said, “I think sometimes I underestimate the gap between Sean McVay. I did this the other day. The Steelers are the opposite of the Rams. The Rams spend money on a young progressive offensive coach. Steelers on an old defensive coach.” The Steelers often spend on the guys who have been there in the system for years. While Sean McVay’s focus is mostly on hiring a perfectly fit guy for the post, even if they have to pay more bills for that.

He also added, “One team has made the playoffs like seven of the last eight years. The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game in like eight years or something.” Yup, that’s halfway true. First of all, it’s great that the 53-year-old led the team to the playoffs 7 times in the past 10 years. But the Steelers have won the wild-card round only two times. They only went to the conference round for only one time in the past 15 years.

That’s why the conversation in Pittsburgh has reached a point where people are discussing Mike Tomlin’s departure after 18 years of service to the franchise. The wait for the Aaron Rodgers, George Pickens trade, and letting the divisional rivals pick Shedeur Sanders. These are the main reasons these ‘HC  removal talks’ are taking place. But to get rid of the main problem the organisation is facing, the Steelers have to follow a newer pathway where new guys are given priority, defensive guys also have great deals like offensive guys, and lowering the distracted culture among the offensive guys can break the vicious cycle.

Meanwhile, NFL analyst John Middlekauff has bashed Mike Tomlin’s Steelers for Hypocrisy. The former NFL scout highlighted one of the most important observations of the Steelers organization.

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers’ hypocrisy

While talking about Tomlin and the Steelers, Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff pointed out one thing. The Steelers want character, but no team has more divas and high-maintenance offensive guys than the Steelers. To elaborate, this is what an NFL analyst said, “One team spends no money on defense. One leads the league in spending on defense. One never takes a chance on character guys. Like, they just don’t put them on their draft board. One makes a living off that.” He didn’t stop there, but added more important things.

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Steelers' loyalty to old strategies and players holding them back from future success?

Have an interesting take?

Cowherd also added, “It’s almost as if I can’t quite figure the Steelers out. They want character, but nobody’s had more divas and high-maintenance offensive guys than the Steelers. They want to win, but then they don’t take care of the number one position.” And the Steelers, while waiting for Aaron Rodgers, actually prove Colin Cowherd’s above statements or hypocrisy. The Steelers want Rodgers, but the level of wait, the type of red carpet they are settling up for this diva, is crazy.

This is nothing but a downgrade of Tomlin and the Steelers’ credibility. Just imagine the level of betrayal if Aaron Rodgers decides to take retirement. The Steelers and Mike Tomlin need to take care of what fans and experts are saying. Inducting any guy for one year only solves a problem for one year. That’s why the Steelers need to follow Sean McVay’s playbook.
