The living room was quiet until the video started playing—bright Florida sunlight, palm trees swaying, and a suitcase in the corner of the frame. A soft smile flickered across the mother’s face. But when she read the words beneath it, just four simple ones, her eyes welled up. For a moment, joy and pride collided with the ache of watching her child walk into the next chapter—without her.

Despite sparking debates throughout the pre-draft process for his arm strength and unorthodox tackling style, Shilo Sanders has finally made his way into the NFL. The 25-year-old safety—son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders—signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft. And now, as he begins rookie minicamp in Tampa, his journey is drawing headlines for more than just football. A recent emotional moment involving his mother has added a deeply personal touch to his new chapter.

On Instagram, Sanders shared a short video clip expressing his excitement about joining the Buccaneers. The caption—marked with palm tree emojis—symbolized a fresh start, heading south for warmer weather and brighter opportunities. “Looks like it’s about that time. Tampa, I’m on the way,” Sanders said in the video, his tone filled with anticipation.

But his words struck a different chord back home. His mother, Pilar Sanders, couldn’t hold back her emotions. In the comment section, she posted a stream of emojis including red hearts, teary eyes, and folded hands—that captured the bittersweet reality of her son leaving Colorado. Her love, pride, and heartbreak were all there in those symbols.

Pilar has long been a constant presence in Shilo’s life, both on and off the field. Just weeks earlier, she had publicly defended him when former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown directed disrespectful behavior toward Shilo in a viral video. “AB is getting dominated by Shilo Sanders,” she fired back, standing up for her son without hesitation.

She’s also been a staple on game days—often spotted cheering from the stands in custom Colorado gear, proudly backing her son during his time with the Buffaloes. Back in April, she was front and center during a ceremony retiring Shilo’s jersey number at Folsom Field. Reflecting on her time in Boulder, she posted: “What an honor and a privilege to have spent two years in Boulder, Colorado with them. It’s been amazing, and to see these sights every day, nothing short of fun, gratitude, and high vibes!”

Her support hasn’t been limited to football. In January, when Shilo released his music album Hate 2 Love, Pilar was among the first to hype it up. “FINALLY!!!!!! I’M SO PROUD OF YOU, SON! THIS IS 🔥🔥🔥… written, produced, engineered, performed by: @shilosanders… #proudmom,” she wrote with unmatched enthusiasm.

So her emotional response to his Tampa move comes as no surprise. Before reporting to rookie minicamp, Sanders dropped another video on social media—this time, a vlog-style goodbye to Colorado. The clip featured him packing up, working out, and even receiving advice about life in Tampa. It ended with the title: “I’m Officially Leaving Colorado… TAMPA Here I Come!”

He also gave a shoutout to Colorado strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey, underscoring the impact his college support system had on him. From defensive back drills to quiet moments of reflection, the video captured the gravity of a transition many athletes dream of but few achieve.

Shilo Sanders has a successful Buccaneers’ rookie minicamp

Shilo Sanders was one of several undrafted rookies attending the Buccaneers’ rookie minicamp, held in Tampa from May 9–11. Alongside him were other fresh faces like WR Tez Johnson and CB Benjamin Morrison, as well as five more undrafted signees:

JJ Roberts (CB, Marshall)
Ben Scott (C, Nebraska)
Desmond Watson (DT, Florida)
Ben Chukwuma (OT, Georgia State)
Jake Majors (C, Texas)

The minicamp offered Tampa Bay a first extended look at its new talent pool, including their 2025 draft class and UDFA pickups. For Sanders, it was an opportunity to prove himself and turn this shot into a full-time roster spot, which he took!

At 6-foot, 196 pounds, Sanders has already carved out a respectable legacy in college football. Across the 2023 and 2024 seasons at Colorado under his father’s guidance, he tallied 137 total tackles—including 99 solo—while starting 19 games. He also forced five fumbles, recovered three more, and even recorded a sack. His journey began at Jackson State (2021–2022), where he also played under Deion’s leadership and refined his skills as a defensive back.

Now, as he steps onto NFL turf in Tampa, Sanders carries more than just potential—he carries family pride, emotional weight, and a clear hunger to prove he belongs. And somewhere back home, his mother is watching—cheering, crying, and believing.
