Aaron Rodgers was at the American Century Championship last year, enjoying his time. Things were already emotional with his father present at the event. Amid the well-documented family feud, the Jets‘ QB embraced his father, indicating there could be a reconciliation on the charts. But it turned even more special as a fan approached him, pleading for a Super Bowl. A-Rod replied, “We’ll get a Super Bowl.” The fan broke down even more. Alas, the season has ended, and they couldn’t even qualify for the playoffs.
After a disastrous 5-12 season, the owner, Woody Johnson, has brought in a new GM, Darren Mougey. And the aim is clear. Lead the team to success. After his appointment, he released a statement clarifying his mission: “It is one of the great honors and privileges of my life to serve as the general manager of the New York Jets. I want to thank Mr. Johnson for this responsibility, one I do not take lightly. I could not be more excited to work alongside Coach Glenn to build a championship team that will make Jets fans proud.” Does it mean he has diagnosed the reasons behind Aaron Rodgers’ failed Super Bowl promise?
The Mougey hiring is now official. A statement from Mougey:

There is no clarity on A-Rod’s future at the New York franchise. He already said before the season ended that 2024 might be his last season in the NFL. But there could be another possibility here. The Jets could have a strategy like his previous franchise, the Green Bay Packers. Keep him in the locker room and bring a rookie. The NY Jets have the 7th pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Mougey’s 10-year experience with the Broncos might pave the way. He started his journey there in 2013 as a personal and scouting assistant. And it was on a high for 3 years, ending with a Super Bowl in 2015. But they also faced a major slump in form, facing 8 years of drought before a playoff appearance in 2024. NY Jets fans would be eager to see something like that themselves.
Meanwhile, Woody Johnson is happy with his choices. He feels the HC Aaron Glenn could partner well with the new GM. It sparks some hopes of a comeback.

Aaron Rodgers’ team owner shows belief in his choices
Aaron Glenn did a great job as the Detroit Lions‘ DC, leading them to historical back-to-back playoffs in 2023 and 2024. With a new GM and HC at the helm, the Jets power duo need to partner well to revive the franchise. The owner, Woody Johnson, believes he has found the right mix. Showing confidence in their abilities, he said, “Darren is a trusted NFL executive who has experience working with an impressive collection of football leaders. He is a proven talent evaluator who impressed us with his vision for this team. His partnership with Coach Glenn will revitalize this organization. I am proud of the thorough search we undertook and that it led us to the two best individuals to lead our football team going forward.”

The new HC knows how things work at the organization. He played there for 8 years from 1994 to 2001 and worked as a scout in 2012 and 2013. But this time, he has all the responsibility. The Jets haven’t qualified for a playoff since 2010. Thus far, he has kept quiet about his thoughts on Aaron Rodgers‘ future. Even for someone of the stature of Rodgers, there is no guarantee. And whenever a new head coach arrives at any NFL franchise, they bring their own plans from a long-term perspective.
