Have you seen Justin Fields‘ latest workout video posted by the Jets? Man, he is unrecognisable as the Jets QB1’s smooth passes turned heads. This is the former Steelers backup QB who was under the shadow of Russell Wilson for a year. And there is one more positive news. An interesting one.

On Wednesday, April 30, Mike Garafolo dropped an exciting update about the New York Jets: “From the insiders: The Jets became the first team since the introduction of the fifth-year option in 2011 to pick up three of them in the same year.” Garafolo further added names of those three players, Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson are all under contract for 2026.” Hell yeah, this security is gonna give the NY team staggering results.

Looking at their contracts, Sauce Gardner had signed a four-year $33,450,801 deal in 2022, which should have ended after the 2025 season. In the case of wide receiver Garrett Wilson, he had signed a four-year, $20,554,006 deal in the same year. And Jermaine Johnson’s contract is no different from this; he also signed a $13,087,443 deal for four seasons with the Jets in 2022. Their contracts were expiring after 2025, but Aaron Glenn’s franchise will avail the fifth-year option for all three players.

According to ESPN data, 32 players in the 2022 class have received the fifth-year option. The calculations and dynamics of selecting players for the fifth-year option are a little complicated. First of all, the 5th-year option is available only to first-round picks of the team. Currently, 2022 class prospects are under their 4th-year deal, which is the ceiling on any rookie deal. After that comes the fifth-year option or the contract extension. Though the Jets are yet to decide on all three players’ contract extensions, they should be more than happy to sign a fifth-year deal with the organisation they were picked by four years ago.

This decision will help out the defense and the offensive squad, as well. But you know, there is a high chance the Jets would add a 6-time Pro Bowler to help out Justin Fields.

Justin Fields to get a 12-year NFL veteran

The Jets‘ offensive side is different this year. Aaron Glenn, has planned to address the running back problem with a three-player committee. Breece Hall is pulling up greatly to make a good impact. Apart from that, though they have given a fifth-year option to Garrett Wilson, there is one more possibility at the receiving end for Justin Fields.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Justin Fields and Keenan Allen turn the Jets into serious contenders this season?

The Jets X Factor‘s Connor Long has suggested free agent Keenan Allen as an additional fit at wide receiver. Connor Long said, “Veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen entered the offseason as a free agent and remains on the open market after a down year by his standards.” He also added, “Adding a veteran like Allen would not only take pressure off Wilson but also provide quarterback Justin Fields with another proven, reliable target, something the New York Jets currently lack.” But how was Keenan Allen’s 2024 season?

If we were to describe Allen’s 2024 season, it would be “Simply great.” In 2024, he tied the 21st spot in scoring receiving touchdowns with 7 TDs. He did that after receiving 70 throws at 121 targets while covering 744 yards. Though his average is a little doubtful at 10.6 yards per pass but the Jets and Justin Fields know who Keenan Allen is. So, the opportunity is there. Let’s see if Aaron Glenn grabs this million-dollar opportunity.
