The Texans are going through a major shake-up! They recently showed their D-Line coach the door. Now, after Jacques Cesaire, could Jerrod Johnson be next in line? To be sure, he still is the Texans’ QB coach. But he’s been interviewing at other teams as well. And after Houston lost the Wild Card round, what else could you expect them to do? Clean up the ones they think were responsible for the mess. And start with a new squad.

However, the proactive Johnson already seems to be doing well for himself. He had interviewed with the Saints last week. And now they have come calling again. Could he join the Saints?

Ian Rapoport, the NFL Insider, spilled the beans on X. New Orleans is circling back for a second interview with Jerrod Johnson. The gig on the table? No, not the role of QB coach. At the Saints, he’s looking for a big promotion. The offensive coordinator position, to be precise. And they’re meeting up on Saturday.

Why the shake-up in New Orleans? Well, they waved goodbye to some familiar faces–Kodi Burns, Pete Carmichael, and Bob Bicknell. Plus running back coach Joel Thomas hopped over as well.

Now, let’s dive into Johnson’s playbook. Before his Houston stint, he was the assistant QB coach for the Minnesota Vikings. There, he rubbed shoulders with Coach Kevin O’Connell and veteran QB Kirk Cousins. He even threw his hat in the ring for the Los Angeles Chargers‘ OC spot, but Kellen Moore snagged that one. Backtracking a bit, Johnson’s coaching journey includes a Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship. Jerrod Johnson started as an offensive quality control coach with the Indianapolis Colts and made the leap to the Vikings in 2022.

What about his playing days? Johnson’s a Texas A&M alum. And he was an ace player! He racked up a school record of 8,011 passing yards and 8,888 total offensive yards. Oh, and he didn’t just rock it on the football field. He also hit the court with the Aggies basketball team. Talk about a dual threat!
