The top pick in the upcoming draft belongs to the Chicago Bears, and they’re highly expected to pick the much-hyped Caleb Williams. This leaves Maye, Daniels, and McCarthy in the race for Washington at the number 2 position. While the new head coach, Dan Quinn, has remained tight-lipped on their preferences, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager has a clear inclination towards one name.

“I got Jayden Daniels, the QB at LSU, the Heisman Trophy winner,” said Schrager on the Rich Eisen Show when asked about some insider info about Commanders possible choice. “I know they really liked meeting with Maye and McCarthy as well. With Williams’ future expected to be sealed in Chicago, the analysts are divided between Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, with McCarthy still climbing in popularity. The LSU product is often quoted as being best suited for Washington, and Colin Cowherd echoed this notion.

The sports reporter feels that Kingsbury’s ample experience of working with dual-threat quarterbacks might come in handy, and the OC would be fit for coaching the raw explosiveness Daniels possesses. “Based on what I’m hearing on Jayden Daniels’ playing style and Kliff Kingsbury’s history, that Washington thinks that’s a better fit for the current staff,” Cowherd said during an appearance on The Volume. “They also believe Jayden Daniels’ ability to move buys you a couple of years of figuring out complex NFL defenses.
