At Levi’s Stadium this Saturday, the Green Bay Packers are gearing up to challenge the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs. The Packers recently secured a 48-32 wild-card triumph over the Dallas Cowboys. At the same time, the 49ers clinched the NFC West with a formidable 12-5 regular season record.

They earned the top seed in the conference and a first-round bye. This matchup is the 10th playoff meeting between these two teams which is an NFL record for postseason encounters between two teams. However, it is shadowed by some serious concerns for the Packers. Their injury report includes several vital players, including Jaire Alexander, which poses a potential setback for the seventh-seeded team.

Packers grapple with extensive injury concerns

The Packers are advancing towards a pivotal Divisional Round clash with the Niners and they have unveiled their Wednesday injury report. In the said report, they have revealed several key players grappling with health issues. Cornerback Jaire Alexander’s participation is doubtful due to shoulder and ankle concerns, making matters tough for the side.

Defensive tackle Kenny Clark and linebacker Rashan Gary are dealing with back and knee issues, respectively. However, they participated in the limited practice. Running back AJ Dillon, linebacker Kingsley Enagbare, and guard Elgton Jenkins did not take part in the practice. Each of them is nursing various ailments from thumb and neck injuries to knee and ankle issues. RB Aaron Jones, LB Isaiah McDuffie, CB Keisean Nixon, Safety Jonathan Owens, WR Jayden Reed, Safety Darnell Savage, and LB Preston Smith, all face limited participation due to injuries.

One good news for the team was LB Quay Walker was in full participation despite a shoulder concern. WR Christian Watson was dealing with a hamstring injury and also saw limited action. This extensive list of injuries could pose significant challenges for the Packers in their upcoming high-stakes game. Even the Niners released their IR ahead of their matchup, but their situation seems much more relaxed as compared to an injury-riddled Packers.

The 49ers are in a strong stance health-wise

As the Niners are heading into their high-profile matchup against the Packers, they appear to be in a relatively healthy state. This was indicated by their recent injury report. Most of their players including DT Arik Armstead, S Ji’Ayir Brown, C Jon Feliciano, S Tashaun Gipson, and WR Danny Gray were in full participation after the previous break from the field.

Not to mention, TE George Kittle, RB Christian McCaffrey, S George Odum, and CB Ambry Thomas were also all full participants in practice. showcasing the team’s robust fitness. On the other hand, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Logan Ryan were limited in their participation. The only non-participant was defensive end Clelin Ferrell.

Additionally, the team took a proactive approach to player health by resting star tackle Trent Williams, classifying him as not injury-related.
