The Broncos were in for a rude shock after their starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, was benched during the last two games of the season. Backup QB Jarrett Stidham replaced him and already recorded a win. Now, as per Ian Rapoport, there is a high possibility that the team will cut Wilson before the end of March next year. Will the New England Patriots be his next destination?

One of the main reasons why the New England Patriots dynasty is 4-12 this season is the lack of a reliable QB. While Wilson faced a tough last two seasons, he is an elite QB and the team might benefit from his presence. If he does go ahead with the Patriots, his switch might happen amidst the firing of the team’s coach Bill Belichick.

The 35-year-old’s athleticism and mobility seem to be going down a slippery slope. But, he’s also a Super Bowl winner and a nine-time Pro Bowler. Both Wilson and the Patriots could look to help each other. After all, the team hasn’t been the same since Tom Brady’s departure for Tampa Bay in 2020. Although Bailey Zappe’s appearances have been too erratic and Mac Jones has steadily declined since his rookie season, there was still hope during his tenure.

The team does have the option of going for younger players in the 2024 draft. But Russell Wilson is surely worth considering right? While Wilson’s future is in limbo, so is the Pats’ coach Bill Belichick.

As per reports, the coach is to meet Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots. He may have to explain the reasons behind a questionable season the team saw. From being known as the greatest coach in the NFL to coaching perhaps the worst team in the franchise’s history, a lot has taken place. In his 24 years with the team, the team has never looked this weak since 1992.

In fact, this is a season the team will not forget. They were shut out in Pro Bowl voting for the first time since 2000. But is Bill Belichick convinced that Wilson can help the Patriots?

What does Bill Belichick think about Russell Wilson?

Back in 2020, the Pats head coach had great things to say about the QB. He spent a lot of time observing Wilson’s game when the New England Patriots faced the Seattle Seahawks.

Belichick was of the opinion that Russell Wilson was underrated. “But I don’t really see anybody better than this player. He can do everything,” he said. He lauded the player’s decision making, running, passing and leadership skills.

“He’s got a great ability to do the right thing at the right time, and he has tremendous vision and sees the field extremely well. I don’t think there’s a better deep ball passer in the league, in terms of decision making and accuracy,” Belichick added and also praised Wilson’s numbers.

“He attacks literally every inch of the field, you have to defend with him the deep balls, the sideline, the scrambles, his ability to get the ball to his playmakers, and space, and then you have to try to tackle him, and that’s very difficult too.” That’s clearly a lot of praise! Having coached Tom Brady for years, wouldn’t Bill Belichick identify a great QB when he sees one?
