The Eagles not just won the Super Bowl but showed the world what a strong defensive player can do, even if the opponents have a superstar QB. If we see the defense rankings, the Eagles are at the No. 1 position by allowing only 278.4 yards per game and 33 touchdowns. Great, right? But what about their offense? Jalen Hurts led the team to the top, but how many offensive players played like DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown, and Saquon Barkley

Well, there was one name. The Eagles had expected great performances from that one wide receiver, but it didn’t work out well. And its name is Jahan Dotson. The Philadelphia Eagles traded for former Washington Commanders‘ first-round pick Jahan Dotson last August, but it was just a gambit that didn’t work out. So, the latest update by NFL Rumors is that the Eagles are moving on from Jahan Dotson as they have declined Dotson’s fifth-year option.

If we look at the contract Dotson signed with the Eagles, they had signed a renegotiation contract with the WR for one year, which was worth around $2,757,048. Actually, he had a great deal with the Washington Commanders, who picked Dotson in the 1st round of the 2022 NFL draft, which was a four-year $15,048,358 contract. But in 2024, the Commanders traded him in exchange for a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft.

It was earlier expected that, despite his underwhelming performance, he would still be playing with AJ Brown and Smith. But the Eagles are, reportedly, moving in different directions. The Eagles had expected great plays from him in the 2024 season, but Dotson received only 19 receptions while covering 216 yards without scoring a single touchdown.

So, per NFL Rumors, the Eagles are expected to make this decision on a former first-round pick. If this happens, Jalen Hurts’ team will have to look for a WR3 in free agency or the draft in 2025.

Jalen Hurts’ Eagles may draft a WR in the 2025 NFL draft

If the Eagles decline Jahan Dotson’s fifth-year option, they will have many options to secure a future AJ Brown. In the 2025 NFL draft, the Eagles, obviously, have the 32nd pick in the first round. And to draft a top wide receiver from the 2025 class, Jalen Hurts’ franchise may need to pull up its socks

If we take a look at the top WRs from the 2025 draft, Tetairoa McMillan from Arizona, Matthew Golden from Texas, Jayden Higgins from Iowa State, and Emeka Egbuka from Ohio State are the top wide receivers. Though many teams like the Dallas Cowboys have kept an eye on prospects like Egbuka, the Eagles can get there by trading up.

Actually, they don’t need a superstar wideout as they already have two, but looking at the uncertainty of the game and injuries, the Eagles can draft any wide receiver from the above list. And if we look at free agency, the Eagles can add Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Elijah Moore, or Diontae Johnson, who has been working hard to get on track after the Ravens’ suspension drama

So, these are the top choices the Eagles have to help out Jalen Hurts as the Eagles must be eying to defend the Super Bowl trophy. But firstly, let’s see if they move on from Jahan Dotson.
