Tyreek Hill became a free agent after a dislocated knee and torn ligaments ended his 2025 campaign with the Miami Dolphins in Week 4. Returning from such an injury is certainly a Herculean task. But for Hill, the injury is just a part of the headache. His legal troubles might just prompt the NFL to slam a suspension on him after listening to his testimony.

Hill is currently engaged in a civil lawsuit after his estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro, accused him of domestic abuse. The case has now reached trial in Miami, and the two have testified. On October 9, 2026, Hill testified and claimed that he was “deeply ashamed” for threatening Vaccaro, but he denied all accusations of physical abuse.
However, the NFL has put its own investigators to work to dig out the truth. Even if Hill’s attorneys manage to convince the jury, Hill will have to face judgment from the league. And Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio pointed out that in case the NFL’s investigators find Vaccaro’s version of the truth more believable, Hill could face a significant suspension.
According to ESPN’s Xuan Thai and The Athletic’s Adam Kilgore, Hill wishes to have handled the situation in a better way when he had an argument with his estranged wife in 2024. He wished he could take the harsh words back.
“I did make statements about she wasn’t safe,” the WR said. “I did make statements about me being able to get people to hurt her. Now looking back, I wish I could have handled that situation a whole lot better. I wish I could have talked to my wife better. I just wish I could take it all back. At the end of the day, my real mom and my sister, they wanted to do some things to her. But they knew at the end of the day, she was the love of my life and I’d do anything to protect her, bro. It was just the heat of the moment. All those things came out during that argument.”
Additionally, during the fight in 2025 that led to the divorce filings, Hill revealed that the couple’s nanny camera captured the entire incident along with the audio. And the jury saw the video during Hill’s testimony. The video showed the former couple engaging in verbal expletives. But it didn’t show Hill engaging in physical abuse. Vaccaro’s mother, who was present at the court, testified that she never saw Hill physically hurting Vaccaro.
“I told her that night, I said, ‘Don’t you ever touch me in your life,’” Hill said about the embarrassing encounter. “I pushed her against the wall, and I tried to force her to get off me. I created a hole in the wall trying to force her to get off me that night.”
Thai also reported that Hill’s agent could be negotiating a new contract in the NFL. But if he returns, can he get back with the Kansas City Chiefs?
Will Tyreek Hill return to Kansas City once the legal troubles settle down?
Sports journalist Rob Parker doesn’t believe that Kansas City is a good option for Hill to return to. During his appearance on Fox Sports Radio, Parker told Hill not to go to the Chiefs “under any circumstances.” He believed that the receiver shouldn’t help the people who had no money for him, even after he helped them win a Super Bowl.
The argument stems from the way the Chiefs handled Hill in the past. They decided to move on from him and traded him to Miami instead of meeting his financial expectations. And now that Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton are injured, the Chiefs have developed a renewed interest in Hill.
Meanwhile, Albert Breer believes that Kansas City could be a good spot for Hill to resume his NFL career. Breer acknowledged on The Dan Patrick Show that the receiver is out of the league because of something more than just an injury. And according to him, injuries are already pretty difficult to return from. But his relationship with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs could play a role in his return.
“I know he’s still got a relationship with Mahomes,” Breer said. “I think the Chiefs receiver situation is dire enough now with the injuries to Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice, where, you know, maybe they feel like they have to make a move.
“You would think that it would be pretty seamless reincorporating him with Eric Bieniemy there. There are a lot of reasons to think why there are a lot of reasons to believe that Tyreek Hill would make sense there.”
But before any franchise bets on his comeback, the looming threat of an NFL suspension could completely derail his career restart.
