The Panthers ended the season with the league-worst record of 2-15. After having an embarrassing season, the Carolina Panthers decided to fire the GM Scott Fitterer and the Head Coach Frank Reich. Now, they are eyeing the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan, for a position with the side to boost their record from this season to the next.

The Panthers don’t have a first-draft pick for the season as they traded the WR DJ Moore and a first-draft pick to get Bryce Young. To make matters more hectic, they are in the market for a new Head Coach as well. The team issued a statement on X that has given more insight into the situation. Hopefully, they can turn the team around next year and Bryce Young might succeed under an experienced name like Callahan.

Is Brian Callahan a new hope for the Panthers?

The team’s social media handle just posted that they are seeking to interview Brian Callahan for this opportunity. The post on X simply says, “#Panthers request permission to interview Brian Callahan.” By the looks of it, if Callahan joins the Panthers, it will be quite a promotion for him because he is the OC at the Cincinnati Bengals currently. Per the notice from the Panthers, the interview is most likely to happen on Zoom.

He can be a prominent member of this team and hone Bryce Young’s talent, hopefully elevating him to his current QB Joe Burrow’s level. Why? Because he was evidently able to bring the same success in for the Bengals. In each two of his last years, Joe Burrow led the Bengals to an AFC Championship game and even won the Super Bowl back in 2021.

Callahan has a strategy focused coaching style, emphasizing on making everyone around pay strong attention to him. The Panthers would definitely appreciate that culture after the underwhelming season they have had in 2023.

However, it’s not just his coaching skills that the Panthers might be interested in. Callahan is known to have an eye for talent that might be useful for the Panthers in the long run. Going ahead, if the new name is added to the Panthers management, it would allow a chance to bring forth a chance to replicate the effect of his current QB, Joe Burrow.

Will Brian Callahan be able to cultivate Burrow’s legacy in the Panthers?

Callahan has a history of working with QBs in teams like the Raiders, the Lions, and of course the Bengals. He joined the Cincinnati team in 2019 and led them to the Super Bowl in 2021. The reason behind this is the fact that he gives Joe Burrow a safe space so that he can be himself and play outstanding football in this preferred sense. The QB is one of the most valuable players on the team right now, and the coordinator of the offensive side would like to bring the same environment to his potentially new team.

What remains to be seen now is whether he will join the Panthers or not. And even if he does, how efficient will he be in coaching Bryce Young? Within his 5-year tenure at the Bengals, Callahan managed to turn the team around quite a bit. The Bengals, despite losing Joe Burrow for the season, won 4 out of their last 6 games with Jake Browning at the front.

His partnership with Browning has proved to be fruitful, even though the Bengals are out of further competition. Here, his coaching skills have displayed exactly what the Panthers need at the moment with a talented QB lying dormant, under-utilized, and particularly clueless.

One take at a time

Basketball has stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Kobe Bryant sometime in 2008 and being blown away. Like every kid my age, I was utterly taken aback by his moves and abilities as an athlete.
