The Philadelphia Eagles were spectacular throughout the season. They won four straight games and had a spotless streak until they lost to the Denver Broncos this Sunday. Although they are still leading the NFC East division, there are a couple of statistics that might not align with the Eagles’ current 4-1 record. It reveals the loopholes in the offense, especially after the last game against the Broncos.

Against the Broncos, the Eagles maintained a lead from the mid-second quarter to the mid-fourth. However, during this time, they handed the ball to Eagles running back Saquon Barkley only one time in 25 plays. Additionally, in the 3rd quarter, on 1st and 15, QB Jalen Hurts missed wide receiver A.J. Brown, which could have resulted in a long TD.  After the end of week 5, the Eagles now average fewer than 100 rush yards per game. Even A.J. Brown has shown his disappointment with not getting the ball. With all that going around, HC Nick Sirianni might have to make strong decisions if things don’t improve.

Looking at the current offensive situation of the Eagles, HC Sirianni can step in and take over the playcalling role from Kevin Patullo. The playcalling decisions and A.J. Brown not getting the ball are all directed towards the failure of better playcalls from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. What matters here is that the Eagles’ offensive room is full of players who can deliver. Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert, DeVonta Smith, and many more have the capability to accomplish great things. So, Eagles can’t wait for the playcalls to develop.

Patullo’s playcalling ability was more evident in the game against the Broncos. When the Eagles had a lead in the second half, Patullo called for 23 passes. His decision made no sense because when a team is winning, they run the ball more to control the clock. Also, Patullo’s bad calls have been the case throughout the season.

Eagles are dealing with penalty issues, averaging 25 penalty yards per game. Even in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hurt made a good start but struggled in the second half. He continues to struggle against zone coverage. In the last game against the Broncos, Hurts averaged 0.36 expected points when facing man coverage. While facing zone, he averaged 0.09 EPA per dropback.

A.J. Brown has his fair share of disappointments

A.J. Brown first showed his disappointment after the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he caught two passes for seven yards. Although he didn’t say anything about it, but declined to talk with the reporters and then went on to post a cryptic tweet. The first tweet was “I love y’all with all my heart.” It was followed by another tweet directly from Mark 6:11 in the Bible: “If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”

During training camp, A.J. Brown stated that his primary goal was to become the best wide receiver in the NFL, but earning that distinction now seems challenging, as he has just 19 catches for 194 yards after the end of Week 5.

The Eagles’ impressive 4-1 record isn’t enough to hide their offensive issues, which have become more evident after the loss to the Broncos. And with A.J.Brown’s regular disappointment with the offensive plan, the chances of Patullo losing the playcalls are high.
