The Chicago Bears’ another loss in the season brought the breaking point for the head coach Matt Eberflus. Despite a close loss, 20-23 against the Detroit Lions, NFL fans and analysts were left to wonder whether the 54-year-old is the right fit for the job or not. This is because of multiple mistakes, especially the missed timeout in Thursday’s game. And guess what? The Bears’ HC indeed was fired from the franchise a day later.
Now this provoked many to speculate who will be the team’s next head coach. Hence, it compelled a fan to directly ask Antonio Brown for the position. The fan, on X, interrogated, “Hey man I heard the Chicago Bears have a new head coach opening. thinking about coaching now that you’re retired man??” To which, Brown replied, “I would have called timeout…..” Now this is either a strong message to Matt Eberflus or a subtle dig on what he would have done if he was the HC of the team.
With 32 seconds left, Caleb Williams stood in the spotlight. The crowd roared, the pressure was suffocating, and the game hung by a thread. Unlike most quarterbacks, coach Matt Eberflus didn’t give him the option to call a timeout. Therefore, his mind was locked on executing the coach’s play. But in the heat of the moment, he missed the clock ticking down. And guess what? The chance to seize victory slipped away from the team.

Hence, it questioned the coach’s decision, and that’s why Brown said he would have given the timeout. Now, although Antonio Brown didn’t directly answer the question of becoming the HC, one thing was clear he didn’t even completely deny the speculation.
So, does that mean Antonio Brown could look for the HC job in Chicago? Well, Brown has never played for the Bears in his 11-season career. In addition to that, he hasn’t clearly indicated anything in favor of being a head coach for an NFL team. Hence, it’s likely that it’s not going to happen, especially when the Bears have their interim coach available at the moment. Yes! Not Antonio Brown, but this time it’s Thomas Brown, Matt Eberflus’s replacement.
Thomas Brown replaced Matt Eberflus!
Black Friday really came for Matt Eberflus, as the team fired him within 24 hours of Thursday’s game results. Quarterback Caleb Williams, who looked puzzled at that play, expressed in a post-game presser, “In that situation, I’m living with the call and letting coaches make that decision. Maybe in the later years of my career [he may call a timeout himself], right now I get the call and I’m trying to lead my team to a win.” Williams chose to say nothing about the HC’s questionable game management. However, Eberflus’s exit has definitely created a sense of upset in the locker room.

Nevertheless, now in Matt Eberflus’s place, Thomas Brown is going to step as the interim head coach of the team. And it’s no doubt that Brown’s journey with Chicago took a dramatic turn. He started as the passing game coordinator. Then came a three-game losing streak, and the Bears fired Shane Waldron, pushing Brown into the interim offensive coordinator role. But things only got worse. Three more losses cost Eberflus his job, leaving Brown in charge for the last five weeks.
With this firing, the team marked their first mid-season head-coaching change in the franchise’s 105-year history. Now that’s definitely a firing the league will remember for ages.
