Talking with the NFL on Fox, Williams stated, “Not the game I want to play.” It seems the rookie had high expectations from himself after finishing the game with 14-of-29 and 93 passing yards. Even though it was a rough start for the Bears, the No.1 pick was bailed out by his defense quite a few times.

Tyrique Stevenson’s go-ahead touchdown was the defining moment of the match when he intercepted a pass while putting it down after 43 yards. This gave the Bears a lead while confirming their victory on Sunday. Even though the former Heisman Trophy winner didn’t have a great start to his NFL career, he got his name on the record books.

Williams became the first QB to win his debut game since David Carr did it for the Texans against the Cowboys back in 2002. From then on, the no.1 overall picks in respective NFL drafts held a record of 0-14-1, which Williams finally breaks. As the rookie was struggling, the receiver room of the Bears was also going through a tough time.

DJ Moore only managed to rack up five passes for 36 yards, while Keenan Allen recorded 29 yards on his debut for the Bears. Finishing their season opener, the Bears ended up with 148 yards throughout their offense. Although this performance is nothing compared to what the Bears could have expected from their team. They did manage to get over the line while key players struggled to make an impact. But can Caleb Williams turn around his lackluster debut in the NFL?

Can Caleb Williams grow into his role throughout the season?

Even though Williams’s era at the Bears has started a little shakily, patience would be the approach that needs to be shown by Chicago. The offensive Rookie of the Year last season, CJ Stroud, didn’t have a great start himself. In a game against the Ravens, the Texans QB accumulated a passer rating of 78% while getting sacked five times in the game.

Elsewhere, Jordan Love got his second opportunity to start for the Packers after playing as a backup under Rodgers for three consecutive seasons. However, he has found himself in a tough position that neither of the players would want to be. With an expected 3-4 weeks out of action, the Packers have a huge problem on their hand.

Under Eberflus and Waldron, Williams has the support of the best coaches who can nurture young talents. However, it remains to be seen whether the rookie QB can turn around his below-par performance against the Titans. While showing the league his capabilities, that landed him the No.1 overall pick among other players on the bag. Only time will tell whether Williams can come back and shut his critics once and for all.
