Russell Wilson is all set to start a new phase of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Having signed the minimum contract of $1.2 million, the QB is aiming for a strong comeback after the past two rocky seasons with the Denver Broncos. In a lighthearted conversation, a former Eagles star revealed another profession he has in mind for Wilson.

DeSean Jackson, who was quite close to pursuing a career in baseball during college, was asked who would be the NFL player who would shine in Major League Baseball. The retired wide receiver thinks Wilson would be the perfect fit. The idea is interesting in itself, considering that Wilson could succeed in two sports, just like Coach Prime, Deion Sanders.

If Jackson hadn’t chosen to focus on football in college, you could’ve seen the WR play baseball on the big screen. Having gotten close to being scouted by the Tampa Bay Rays and the Phillies, the former Eagles player was poised for an interesting question. On the Up & Adams Show, he was asked to pick a name from the currently active NFL players who he thinks would succeed in the MLB. After some deliberation, Jackson gave two names in answer: the Steelers’ Russell Wilson and the Cardinals’ Kyler Murray.

Russell Wilson seems apt for the choice, considering his experience as second base in the minor baseball league. The QB was drafted by the Colorado Rookies in 2010 but announced his switch to the NFL a year later. Even while playing with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was on the draft list in the MLB but wasn’t active. He is a part of the long list of NFL stars who have played both football and baseball, including Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders.

The former Seahawks star still belongs to the Yankees after his 2018 trade. While Russell Wilson didn’t plan on actually returning to baseball, he wanted to fulfill his promise to his late father to wear the Yankees uniform. If the QB ever decides to return to the sport, there is one coach who can provide plenty of insight.

Colorado’s head coach, Deion Sanders, has spent 9 seasons in the MLB, making him the only athlete to have played in both the Super Bowl and the World Series. After retiring from the NFL in 2006, “Prime Time” made his new legacy as a college football coach. Apart from his contribution to football, Sanders had a flourishing career in major league baseball as well. The Hall of Famer had 186 stolen bases and 39 home runs in his nine-year-long career and was first drafted in 1985 by the New York Yankees.

With the Yankees connection and Wilson’s last year’s Halloween impersonation of Sanders, the two NFL greats have a lot in common. Whether Russell Wilson will return to baseball in the future remains to be seen. As of now, the quarterback is training intensively and gearing up for his upcoming season with the Steelers.
