The Chiefs have now matured into a top contender in the NFL league. One big reason for this change is Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Some even say he could be one of the greatest coaches ever. It’s not just a wild idea anymore that Reid might surpass legends like Don Shula and Bill Belichick. Yes, it’s actually possible. Reid has won 283 games in his career so far, and he needs 65 more to beat Shula’s record. That might seem like a lot, but it’s doable.

Recently, CBS Sports asked Reid a similar question, comparing him to legends like Shula and Belichick. See how he handled it with grace.

The conversation began with a hypothetical scenario presented to Andy Reid, suggesting that if he maintains his current winning record for the next five years, he could potentially surpass Don Shula’s record for most career wins. However, Reid quickly dismissed the notion, emphasizing his focus on the present and his commitment to his players. He also politely shut down the comparison of his coaching career to legendary figures like Don Shula and Bill Belichick

“Yeah I don’t go there,” Reid stated. He further added, “I’m probably right with the players I come back to training camp. I try not to get too far away from what’s real and I don’t know…that’s great…I don’t know that’s not where I spend my time. I’m more too worried about the other stuff and maybe down the road I’ll think about that when I’m done coaching”.

He also demonstrated his respect for the two coaches and effectively halted the comparison in a dignified manner. “I will tell you though, Don Shula was one heck of a football coach and Belichick is one heck of a football coach… I was able to compete against both of them and I keep them on a high pedestal,” Reid emphasized.

While comparisons and discussions about legacies are inevitable in sports, Reid’s response reflects his characteristic humility and dedication to his team and the game itself.
