The Green Bay Packers didn’t dominate the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6, but a win is a win. And rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden stole the spotlight with a breakout performance. Quarterback Jordan Love praised Golden’s explosive playmaking and expressed a desire to get him more involved. However, Love’s comments contrasted with those of head coach Matt LaFleur.

“He adds another explosive playmaker,” Love said, praising his rookie receiver. “Both really explosive plays, with the go ball down the sideline (35 yards in the second quarter), and then that last play there to him. He is a guy we’re going to keep trying to get going and keep finding ways of getting him the ball.”

Love continued, “He’s definitely a very explosive playmaker. Just gotta keep finding ways to get it to him.” But here’s the twist. Love’s words didn’t sit exactly in sync with his head coach’s approach.

The reason the quarterback’s comments appear to challenge the head coach’s plans is simple: LaFleur has made it clear he will not alter the offensive philosophy to give rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden more touches.

“I know everybody wants to force-feed guys the ball, but that’s not really how we’ve done it around here, and I don’t plan on changing that,” LaFleur said. “That’s the beauty of having a lot of guys [that] we have a lot of confidence in.”

“We have confidence that we can put anybody in this situation and have plays off of plays, and a lot of it is dictated off the coverages. The quarterback’s role is to make sure the ball is going to the right place based on what the defense presents. Whoever gets those catches, they get them,” the head coach added.

Still, you can’t ignore what the 22-year-old is doing. Over the last three games, Golden has caught 12 of 15 targets for 196 yards. He’s had a catch of 34 yards or more in all three. Only two Packers receivers have longer receptions than his 46-yarder from Week 4 against the Cowboys.

And while LaFleur keeps insisting on balance, you can feel the tension brewing between sticking to the plan and letting the rookie shine. However, Sunday night might have explained what Golden is capable of if given an opportunity.

Jordan Love found his go-to guy in Week 6

On Sunday at Lambeau Field, the Green and Gold took care of business with a 27-18 win over the Bengals coming off their bye week. But it wasn’t just another victory, it was the night rookie wideout Matthew Golden announced himself. Three catches. Eighty-six yards. And one play that flipped the entire energy inside Lambeau.

Then came the clutch moment. With 2:32 left and the Packers clinging to a 24-18 lead, facing third-and-9 from their own 40, Jordan Love looked left and let it rip. Golden streaked near the sideline, hauled it in, and tumbled out of bounds. That play iced the game. Moments later, Green Bay sealed it with a field goal — and the crowd roared like it was January in Titletown.

Meanwhile, Love stayed sharp all game: 19-of-26 for 259 yards and a touchdown. Romeo Doubs still drew the most looks, and Josh Jacobs powered through defenders like usual. But something’s changing. Golden’s speed gives Love that downfield spark the offense has been missing. It’s clear the connection’s growing fast.

And honestly, with that kind of big-play juice, Matt LaFleur and his staff would be crazy not to use Golden more often with growing injuries. And now all eyes will be on LaFleur, waiting to see what he cooks up next in Week 7.
