Remember Week 18 in 2023, when Jordan Love completed 84.4% of his passes to beat the Chicago Bears 17-9? History’s repeating itself. The NFL just handed Love the appreciation once again. Only this time, the spotlight shines brighter as he is being rewarded for defeating his mentor, Aaron Rodgers.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his dazzling Week 8 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The award came after Love completed 29 of 37 (78.4 completion percentage) for 360 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Green Bay outperformed the Steelers with a commanding 35-25 victory. He wasn’t sacked once and finished with a career-best passer rating of 134.2. And that’s not all. The quarterback made a lasting impact with his performance.

He tied the 18-year-old franchise record set by Brett Favre with 20 consecutive completions. And also became the first Packers quarterback to hit 350-plus passing yards, three-plus touchdowns, zero picks, zero sacks, and a completion rate over 75% in the same game. 

Head coach Matt LaFleur summed it up perfectly, “I thought it was really impressive because he was making some high-level throws down the field…He did a great job. He was in complete command of the game, and made a couple of off-schedules. He played really, really well.”

This marks Love’s third career Player of the Week honor, following back-to-back wins in Weeks 17 and 18 of 2023. But this one stands out. It carries the weight of a quarterback who’s no longer auditioning but defining what Green Bay football looks like post-Rodgers.

Down 16-7 at halftime, Love led the Packers to a furious rally, scoring 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points and sealing a convincing win. He outplayed the Steelers in every way. 

Micah Parsons couldn’t hide his admiration, “He’s showed he’s the successor. He’s the up-and-coming…I’m just so proud of him, everything he’s been through, how he’s developed as a player, how he’s developed as a person, and he’s just playing some really good football right now.”

This Sunday’s game was his 16th game with zero interceptions, and so far in this season, the quarterback has just two interceptions. Love also ranks 4th in the league in percentage of passes completed. 

Even Rodgers appreciated his game. “He played great, played fantastic. He’s had a really nice season. He’s been really efficient with the football. He’s opportunistic, though I felt like he was very patient tonight.”

But Tucker Kraft captured the moment perfectly. “The legacy that [Rodgers] left, I would say Jordan’s filling those shoes. When you’re talking about the Favre to Rodgers to Love, Jordan has stepped up and fulfilled his end of the bargain.” 

Now, Green Bay shifts its attention to Sunday’s matchup with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers stand at 4-4, and the Packers are at 5-1-1. Another big test awaits, and Love looks ready for it.
