Jordan Love gave the Green Bay Packers a scare when he headed to the medical tent Sunday, and while he returned to the game, the brief absence highlighted a critical reality: the team’s success is precariously balanced on his performance, a fact supported by a disturbing statistical trend.

The Packers have lost all six games since Week 15 of 2024, when they have scored less than 26 points. On the other hand, they have an 8-0-1 record in the same span every time the team has scored 26 points or more.

In those 6 games, which the Packers have lost, including the playoff loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, here are some key facts from Love’s performances.

  • Love has 30 or more pass attempts in four of their six losses. Conversely, in six of their eight wins, he has between 20-30 pass attempts.
  • He has fewer than 200 passing yards in four of their six defeats. He has 200+ passing yards in 4/8 wins.
  • He has been sacked two or more times in four of their six losses. Since Week 15 of the 2024 season, he has been sacked only twice or more in 2 of 8 games, which they have won.
  • The Packers have only won 1 game in which his passer rating has been less than 91.7.

The numbers show that no matter how well the defense does, Jordan Love having a good game is critical to Green Bay’s chances. It can be a cause for concern for a team that will host the Bears and the Vikings, while going on the road to play the Lions and the Broncos in their next four.

What if Love misses out or is not fully healthy?

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur cautions Jordan Love

Late in the first quarter, quarterback Jordan Love scrambled for four yards, but the Giants’ linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles took him down into the turf and sent him straight into the blue medical tent. Love stayed there briefly, then went to the locker room for more testing.

The team listed him as questionable with a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury. He missed only seven plays and returned at the start of Green Bay’s next possession, but HC LaFleur confirmed that they don’t need to worry.

“He’s doing good. Obviously, he’s definitely sore,” LaFleur said while asking his QB not to risk himself in such situations. “You can’t put yourself in those situations. I don’t know if he thought he is a little more elusive than what he really is, and thought he could get around him or not. Obviously, it didn’t work out.”

Well, the 6-3-1 Packers are safe for now, but their next four games can change things around the NFC North playoff race. It will be doubly difficult if he is not fully healthy, and it remains to be seen how the quarterback shakes off his shoulder troubles from New York.

Love would do well to pay heed to his head coach’s advice.
