Just when everyone thought Zion Williamson was unstoppable, he succumbed to an unfortunate exit from the game. The Pelicans Power Forward had to leave the game against the Lakers 3 minutes early after facing an injury. While no details of his injury can be understood as of now from the scenes on the court, Williamson was seen on the courtside and later headed to the locker room soon after.
Even after dropping 40 points in the play-in tournament game, the Pelicans star witnessed his team lose 106-110 to the Lakers. The debacle upset Patrick Mahomes, and he shared his sorrow for the NBA star on X.
The Kansas City Chiefs QB took to X and wrote, “Man hate to see that for Zion. He was going crazy!” In a video from the game, we could see Zion getting up in pain. He was angry about his reported injury and could be seen heading to the locker room with a disappointed expression, reflecting his frustration due to not being able to finish the game.

Before leaving the game, the forward played 36 minutes. He scored 40 points with 11 rebounds and 5 assists. In the play in which the injury happened, we saw him dropping a point on Anthony Davis, the Lakers PF. The score neutralized the game as both teams were stuck on 95 each. We could surely feel the impact on the Pelicans after the Forward left.

No other player in the Pelicans managed to score more than 12 points in the game. However, they still managed to end the game with a slight lead. On the Los Angeles side of things, LeBron James was running the business as usual. He dropped 23 points, had 9 assists and 9 rebounds each, and played for 41 minutes.
In the past, a torn meniscus in the 2019-2020 season kept him out for the most part. Following the next season, 2021-2022 season, Williamson was out because he had a fractured right foot. In 2022-2023 he played 29 games because of right hamstring strain. Williamson played a whopping 70 games in this season! Maybe this is what Mahomes was so upset about, just when he saw Williamson bounce back, he witnessed his downfall at such a crucial time. But not only Mahomes, fans are also upset as the Pelicans PF left the game.
Zion fans are desolate right now
