The NFL off-season has really witnessed different sides of the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. On one side, he has been a diligent family man spending quality time with his wife and kids. On the other side, he has been working hard for the next season. However, amidst all this, he still took time to participate in the interview with Complex, which brought forth many perplexities related to the football professional.

During this unorthodox interview, Mahomes addressed fans’ tweets directed toward him. While some of those messages lightly poked fun a jab at the quarterback, others just saw him for what he’s great at, football! One of the comments, in particular, addressed the Super Bowl champion regarding his speed.

It read, “When Mahomes needs to scramble for X yards, he can always dial up X+1. Just a different cat.” The Kansas City Chiefs QB addressed the situation honestly and admitted that he runs “scared” to make sure that he always stays ahead of the defenders. “This is the truest thing we’ve read so far. I’m not fast, but I run scared, so I’m always one step faster than the guy chasing me, ” said the QB.

He added, “You’ll never see me making these big, long, like 40-yard touchdown runs. If I can run and just get far enough away to get the 1 down to get out of bounds or slide, that’s my go-to.” However, this is not where he stopped. While his admission about him being slow might have caught many off guard, Mahomes made sure to comfort the Chiefs fans through his next words. Boasting about his strategy, Patrick Mahomes said, ““I’m not fast, but you’ve never seen anyone catch me.”

A lot of things came out throughout the interview. Apart from the Super Bowl Champion spilling tea about how he manages to get those first downs, he also shared details about his time at Texas Tech and how he didn’t get a degree. Also, how he manages his dad bod, his recent TIME interview, and his time off court playing golf. Astonishingly though while the Chiefs QB is being modest about his run game, a report from ESPN suggested that Mahomes is faster than he looks.

Despite running slower than many, Patrick Mahomes believes he better than what people believe

In a game against the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs with the help of Patrick Mahomes were barely able to win the game. However, Mahomes rushed for 51 yards in that game. The QB ran for 32 yards in the final game of the drive, which saved the Chiefs some time on the clock. “We needed that play in that time,” Mahomes said. “We were trying to do what we can to keep the defense off the field. They’d been playing their tail off in that second half.”

He also mentioned in an ESPN interview, “I’ve told a lot of people I’m faster than people think,” Mahomes said. “I don’t run pretty, so people think I’m slow, but I move a little bit better than people think.”

However, in that game, Mahomes threw a pass to TE Noah Gray, which helped him break Dan Marino’s record of fastest 200 touchdowns. What Marino did in 89 games, Mahomes did in 84. As he mentioned earlier, him running might not look appealing, but the QB does what the situation calls for and makes sure to get those downs when needed, that is what adds to his authenticity.
