The New England Patriots are rolling. They’ve now won seven games in a row, improving to 8-2 after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10. Quarterback Drake Maye continues to impress, helping the Pats pull ahead of the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. The Bills dropped to 6-3 after a surprising 13-30 loss to the Miami Dolphins. And to make things worse, Maye’s postgame comments added fuel to the rivalry.

“We’re not worried about Buffalo. We’re out Thursday night, we’ve got a big one,” Maye told CBS‘ Tracy Wolfson when she told him about the Bills’ week 10 defeat.
Drake Maye’s 2025 season has been nothing short of spectacular. In just his second year, he’s performing with the calmness and efficiency of a veteran quarterback. Through 10 games, he has completed an impressive 71.7% of his passes for 2,555 yards and 19 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions.

Josh Allen, on the other hand, continues to define what a modern NFL quarterback looks like. The Buffalo Bills’ veteran is in his 8th season and still performing at a high level. Allen’s numbers, a 70.3% completion rate, 2,139 yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, speak to his balance between aggression and control. But what separates him, as always, is his dual-threat ability. With 311 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns already this season, Allen remains one of the most dangerous signal callers.

At this point in the 2025 season, Drake Maye looks like the more efficient quarterback, while Josh Allen remains the more dynamic playmaker. However, there’s a strong bond of respect between them. The Buffalo Bills star and the New England Patriots’ young quarterback have become friends off the field while preparing to face each other twice a year.

“He makes some plays every week that you’re like, ‘Man, that’s pretty cool.’ So, he’s the MVP of the league, and sadly to say it’s fun to watch him,” Drake Maye praised Josh Allen before the week 5 game, which the Patriots won.
Allen returned the respect with equal warmth. The reigning MVP praised Maye’s mindset and football skills that have helped the Patriots win games.

“Drake is super talented, he’s one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league,” Allen told Sports Illustrated in the offseason this year. “He exemplifies football.”
Both quarterbacks understand what’s coming. Tough matchups, growing rivalry! It has risen to a level where fans are rooting for Maye to win MVP.

Drake Maye is focused on winning games instead of the MVP
If you thought that was impressive, the sophomore quarterback has truly been leading the way with his play. While fans chant “MVP” wherever he goes, Drake Maye stays grounded.
He’s practicing humility. When Wolfson asked him about the chants during the Week 10 game against the Buccaneers, he deflected the attention again, joking that they might’ve been cheering for QB Baker Mayfield.
“Yeah, they may have been for Baker. Baker played his b–t off. I’m a big fan of Baker’s game. And they’re a good football team,” Maye replied to the reporter’s question about hearing those MVP chants.

The New England Patriots are winning again, and a big reason is their young quarterback, Drake Maye. Fans at Gillette Stadium were chanting MVP during the week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns, but Maye says he didn’t hear it. He even said that he was laughing over his slide in the long run. Maye’s numbers back that up.
He’s had 200+ yards and a 100+ passer rating in 8 straight games, surpassing Patrick Mahomes for the longest streak ever by a quarterback age 23 or younger. Every QB who’s done that in a single season has gone on to win MVP. Moreover, Maye already has five games with a passer rating over 135, something no one else in NFL history has ever done through a team’s first eight games. And beyond the numbers, he’s brought life back to Foxborough.
As those MVP! chants grow louder every week, Maye just keeps smiling and winning.
