The clock is ticking as we approach the second half of the NFL season. While it ignites the anticipation on many fronts, it also fuels the curiosity concerning the MVP of the year. More often than not, it is the teams’ quarterbacks who lead the race; this season is no exception as well! Even though I am cheering for Russell Wilson, the statistics clearing seem to be disagreeing as they tip toward two different QBs.

Where numerous fans are still rooting for star QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Josh Allen, the competition has seen Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott, objectively, holding the reigns tightly. On one hand, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback had critical queries posed by Stephen A Smith surrounding his position and the Ravens’ $260 million worth spent on him. On the other hand, Jackson had been the underdog of the season. However, both players are now ranking high on the table as they showcase brilliance on the field.

Lamar-vellous shuts down doubts with his performance!

It’s easy to win games when you’re playing for a team that has elite players and has been relatively healthy for most of the season. But, as Colin Cowherd rightly pointed out, the Baltimore Ravens were “more chronically injured than any other team in the AFC.” Despite that, Lamar Jackson has a 59-24 record so far ever since he was drafted by the Ravens in 2018.

Astonishingly, he already has an MVP under his belt! While it was not the prestigious NFL MVP, a special panel came together during the mid-season, and the NFL’s official site revealed that Jackson was the “Mid-season NFL MVP.” In the current season, he is undoubtedly the best-rushing quarterback with 644 rushing yards with also being the 4th best rushing QB in the entire league’s history, according to data compiled by The Sportster.

Chris Broussard, an analyst for ESPN’s show First Things First, was all praises when talking about his prospects as this year’s MVP. He stated, “Hurts and Mahomes – they don’t have the quality of wins that Lamar has. He [Lamar] is the reason that this [Ravens] is one of the best teams in the league.” And with a 10-3 score, the Ravens are not only the leaders of the AFC but lead the entire league as well so far. Amidst this, though, the Cowboys’ QB, Dak Prescott, is not quite far behind in the discussion.

Dak Prescott has a chip on his shoulder

Expectations did not seem to be too high from the Mississippi State Bulldogs’ product when he entered the National Football League. However, being the fourth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys and the 135th overall pick served as enough reminder and motivation for the football player. The current season is an accurate example of the display of drive from the QB, making his team’s case strong for the playoffs at the moment.

The Cowboys are currently 10-3 and were on a 4-game win streak when they faced the Philadelphia Eagles. The criticism coming their way was that the Cowboys have had an easy schedule during these games, making it comparatively uncomplicated for them to be able to rake in so many wins. But in the 30-13 demolition of the Eagles, Prescott proved his naysayers wrong.

For the seventh straight game, he scored more than one passing TD, equalling Tony Romo’s franchise record. He currently leads the QB list in the number of passing touchdowns at 28. He also has the third-most passing yards in the league at 3,505. And going by QB ratings, he is the second-best in the league after Brock Purdy, ahead of Tua Tagovailoa, who stands third.

ESPN’s Seth Walder said that after the Eagles game, Prescott is the frontrunner in the MVP race. But seems like the QB is not going to get complacent! “Yeah, it was good enough to win. But I’m holding myself to super-high standards. Yeah, if I play my best game, we’re putting up 50 (points) out there,” was the subtle reply from Prescott on being asked about his performance and his team’s standing.

I am a hardcore believer in the ?Mamba Mentality?, which certainly applies to the NFL. The sport is not just about physical prowess but also demands a powerful mindset. Growing up, I spent time with athletes on the neighborhood soccer field.
