The Philadelphia Eagles had a strong start to their season last year but later ended up with a disappointing production. The team had major issues scoring touchdowns from the end zone and had to rely on Jake Elliott for most of their points. Following the bad season, Howie Roseman decided to make some major changes to their roster.

Now, the team made some major off-season moves and had a solid draft in Detroit to take over the next season. The team strengthened their defense, provided extensions to deserving players, and even traded for some offensive pieces. Considering these off-season trades, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs might get a run for their money this season. The hosts of SPEAK had a few things to point out about the Eagles’ upcoming season.

Dave Helman made a list of his post-draft NFL power ranking and tried to justify the list. The Chiefs are at the top of that list, followed by the Eagles, the Niners, the Lions, the Texans, and many others. However, coming back to the Philly team, the draft had impressed the presenter. Helman was sold by the off-season moves, expecting the new Eagles side to put up a challenge to Helman’s power ranking table toppers.

The Eagles talent combined with what they did in the off-season, what’s not to like? They were an 11-1 team last year, they add Saquon Barkley, they do good work in the draft,” said Helman and added, “Their two top draft picks are defensive players.” Moreover, it was pointed out that the Eagles have a new defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio.

The most noticeable trade the Eagles made this year was getting Saquon Barkley from the New York Giants. The RB is a rushing powerhouse but had an underwhelming last season because of injuries. But he’s given multiple 1,000-plus-yard seasons despite the Giants’ shabby offense. Last season, he played 14 games, had 247 carries over 962 yards, and had 6 touchdowns.

But Barkley isn’t the only noticeable change in the team. Howie Roseman’s team has also made huge efforts in securing their defense, both in the off-season trades and during the draft.

The bolstered Philly team seems all set to take over the league!

First and foremost, the Eagles agreed to give Jordan Mailata a 3-year $66 million extension recently. He is a pivotal part of the Eagles’ O-Line, finished second in run block win rate, and didn’t miss a game in the 2023 season. Also, the team gave Landon Dickerson a 4-year $87 million deal, making him the highest-paid guard in NFL history.

Not only this, but the Eagles also landed Quinyon Mitchell (CB) in the first round of the draft pick. Apart from this, they also signed Cooper DeJean, who had 26 solo tackles, 5 passes defended, and 2 interceptions in his last season at Iowa. He is one of the most hyped draft prospects on the roster.

Apart from this, the team also drafted Jalyx Hunt (OLB) and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (LB) to boost their defense as well. So, one thing is for sure, teams like the Chiefs are going to have a stiff competition against the Philly team. Now that Jason Kelce has retired, the Eagles needed some prolific players to hold the line. Things are looking optimistic right now, but only time will tell how well their side paves out to be.
