Brock Purdy received an appraisal from a living legend for his performance in Super Bowl 58! Brock Purdy and Co. had an unfortunate day at the Super Bowl finals. They had to leave trophy-less after a close defeat against the Red Army with a 25-22 score line. But what makes this more devastating is a significant confusion that could have given a game-winning opportunity to the 49ers. Despite this loss, though, Purdy received enormous plaudits from Hall of Famer Kurt Warner.

The exciting matchup went overtime, much like Super Bowl LI, between the Patriots and Falcons. Along with the excitement, this overtime showdown brought a lot of confusion, especially among the 49ers. After an unbelievable defeat from the Chiefs, many players revealed their unawareness about the overtime rules. While many analysts and retired players showed grievance on that matter, Kurt Warner begs to differ and believes that Purdy and the team played well despite the confusion.

In the latest episode of “The Rich Eisen Show,” the Hall of Famer and NFL analyst Kurt Warner joined as a guest virtually. As the discussion progressed, the host, Suzy Shuster, discussed 49ers QB Brock Purdy’s performance in Super Bowl LVIII and his takeaways from the matchup. While replying to her question, Warner replied, ” I thought he (Brock Purdy) played well in the Super Bowl. Now you know it was a tale of two halves football team. I didn’t think Chief’s offense and Patrick played great in the first half. I thought Brock played well in the first half.”

Warner added that the 49ers might have witnessed a downfall in their performance in the second half because of the Chiefs’ powerful defense; yet, even so, they played well. He praised Purdy’s journey as the starter, believing he made big throws, made a Super Bowl appearance, and achieved a straight period. Later, Warner compared Mahomes and Purdy by stating that ” Mahomes is gifted,” but he hasn’t played as well as one can expect from him in a Super Bowl.

When the host asked Warner about his thoughts on the whole Super Bowl game in general, especially on offense, then he said it wasn’t a great football game, more like a chess match. The Chiefs made the plays when they needed to, which caused all the drama in overtime. But what was the overtime concern that has caused a stir in the NFL realm?

49ers Players were not aware of the overtime rules

In the Super Bowl matchup, the game went into overtime most dramatically. As per the recent rule of overtime plays, both teams are allowed to take the ball even if the first team scores a touchdown. This differs from previous norms, which stated that the game would end once a team scored. The San Francisco 49ers took possession first but only scored a field goal. Then, the Chiefs capitalized on their possession by scoring a touchdown, ultimately winning the game.
