Following a challenging defeat of 32-9 against the Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, Jason Kelce was noticeably distressed on the sidelines. His emotions clear, for all to see. Adam Schefter later revealed that Kelce had shared with his teammates in the locker room his intentions to retire. While this announcement might not come as a complete surprise, considering his age, it still sent ripples of shock throughout the NFL community.
Kelce has been an iconic figure in the league for more than a decade. He is known for his unique blend of athleticism, intellect, strength, determination, and sheer love for the game. His departure leaves big shoes to fill for the Eagles. Yet, with three picks in the initial two rounds of the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, Philadelphia is in a promising position to scout talent that could step into Kelce’s significant role.

Jackson Powers-Johnson, the “Oregon Mauler” stands out as the premier center prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. At just 21 years old when he begins his rookie season, Powers-Johnson is the recipient of the 2023 Rimington Award. He also has the potential to anchor the center position in Philadelphia for over a decade, much like Kelce did. With a physique of 6’3” and 320 pounds, he’s not just an exceptional athlete but also remarkably agile, capable of powerful and effective movements at the line of scrimmage.
The explosiveness and athleticism in this years OL class is truly unbelievable.
Jackson Powers-Johnson is so effortless & violent in his movements. Rock solid day 1 guy for me.

For the Eagles, if the aim is to prioritize raw potential and robust physicality, Sedrick Van Pran emerges as a compelling choice. Despite his vast experience, Van Pran is particularly dynamic and stands out for his aggressive approach in the field. He’s known for his formidable presence in run blocking from the get-go, backed by a robust build and keen awareness that could see him make strides in pass protection as well.

Graham Barton, while not exclusively a center, brings a unique blend of versatility to the table. His experience spans various positions along the O-line, thanks to his time at Duke, making him potentially the most valuable pick in this group. Barton’s adaptability might command a higher draft pick, particularly if the Eagles wish to secure his diverse skill set without risking losing him after the first round. But if the squad is looking for a veteran player, could Kelce’s replacement be found from the league itself?

Which NFL players could replace Kelce?
The Eagles could consider singing Andrew James from the Las Vegas Raiders. Not only is he proficient in his role, but at 26, he’s also at a stage where his career could ascend even further, making him a potential cornerstone for the team’s O-line for years to come. Moreover, James could provide much-needed stability during this transition period if at all they want to sign a new player from the Draft.
On the Eagles’ side, they might find their solution much closer to home. Cam Jurgens, currently playing as the Eagles’ right guard, has a substantial history as a center from his college days at Nebraska, where he was recognized as a third-team all-Big Ten. Having already drafted him with the intention of playing center, and with 11 starts at right guard under his belt, shifting Jurgens to center seems like a natural move.
