Born on July 18, 2001, in Williston, Florida, Quinyon Mitchell is an American national by birth. While there is no official information available about Mashona Solomon’s nationality, Quinyon’s American citizenship suggests that his parents are also Americans.

Despite limited information available about Solomon, Mitchell shared during his pre-draft interview that she played basketball. Solomon also played an important role in Mitchell’s academic journey, helping him refocus on his grades after facing setbacks and missed opportunities. Quinyon often credits his mother for her endless support.

While Mitchell’s father remains unnamed publicly, Mitchell mentioned during the 2024 NFL Combine that his dad was a quarterback at Troy State University, now known as Troy University, in the Sun Belt Conference. He also talked about his grandfather, known as “Speed Buggy,” as another athlete in the family tree. Growing up, Mitchell spent the first nine years of his life living at his grandmother’s house, forging a close relationship with her from a young age.

As per The Athletic, Johnson who has fueled his need for speed, recalls fond memories of racing with Mitchell, who had a love for running from an early age. “He loved to run so much. Sometimes, he and I would race,” Johnson reminisces, adding with a laugh, “He always won.”

Throughout Mitchell’s upbringing, Johnson instilled important values in him, including honesty, respect, and kindness towards others. These principles continue to guide Mitchell in his life today, shaping his decisions both on and off the football field. One incident during Mitchell’s college football career highlights the influence of his grandmother’s teachings.

When considering changing his jersey number, Mitchell sought Johnson’s advice, who reminded him that the number 27 had brought him success when nobody knew who he was. After taking his grandmother’s advice, Mitchell decided to keep his original number.

Mitchell’s connection to Toledo University, where he played college football, also reflects the influence of his grandmother. Despite other offers from high-major schools, Mitchell chose Toledo because of his admiration for Coach Candle. Johnson said about Mitchell’s decision, “He’d watched coach Candle on the sideline during games, Just like I did.”
