The Las Vegas Raiders had another rough game this week. Now, hours after their 24-10 defeat to the Cleveland Browns, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed that the Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. The unit gave up 10 sacks in the loss, and Sin City felt the heat. As the news spread, Kelly finally spoke up.

Reporter Jay Glazer explained that he reached out to Kelly right after the firing to get his thoughts on the sacking.
“I am grateful for the opportunity with the Raiders, bottom line in this league you have to win. I really loved those players, I’m a huge, HUGE Geno Smith fan. That was one of the best parts of this experience for me, working with Geno and those guys every day. But hey, we gotta win. I get it.”

Meanwhile, people around the league remembered the weight of his hiring. Kelly arrived in February as the NFL’s highest-paid offensive coordinator at six million dollars per year. The Raiders expected his experience with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers to spark their offense, only to sack him after 11 games.
Clearly, the results never followed. Las Vegas’ offense stalled again on Sunday, averaging only 3.6 yards per play. The loss dropped the team to 2-9, and frustration spread through Raider Nation.

Kelly became the second coordinator fired this month, joining special teams coach Tom McMahon after the Denver defeat. And now, the silver and black head into another week searching for answers. However, Pete Carroll also opened up on this decision.

Pete Carroll’s statement on Kelly’s sacking
The Raiders posted Pete Carroll’s message on X. Carroll addressed the move himself and stayed direct about it.
“I spoke with Chip Kelly earlier this evening and informed him of his release as offensive coordinator of the Raiders. I would like to thank Chip for his service and wish him all the best in the future.”

Kelly didn’t improve the Raiders’ offensive side this season as they rank 31st in points per game with just 15 and 30th in yards per game with 269 yards. So, later Carroll also addressed that issue.

“If you don’t score, you can’t win. And we couldn’t score. We had opportunities to make big plays, and we didn’t hit them. The QB was under duress the entire time. Our ability to match up with their pass rush didn’t work out well.”
The comment echoed the frustration that has followed the unit all season. Right now, no interim coordinator has been named. The Silver and Black sit at 2-9, and nothing points to a quick fix. The bigger question now hangs over Carroll. He has dropped five straight for only the second time in his long career, and Raider Nation wonders if he will return in 2026.
