The Las Vegas Raiders‘ dismal 2-9 season has claimed its first major victim, with the team firing offensive coordinator Chip Kelly following a Week 12 collapse against the Cleveland Browns. With Kelly out, who can possibly right the ship for the sinking Raiders?

Here’s a list of six coaches who might get a call for an interview pretty soon. Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is one of the frontrunners for the job.

Daboll coached the Giants for three and a half seasons, but they fired him after going 2-8 in 10 weeks. So far, Daboll remains a free agent and is reportedly seeking a new coaching opportunity. There were strong rumors that the Penn State Nittany Lions were considering him for a coaching offer.

However, Daboll has not publicly spoken about the opportunity. He might want the entire season to end before taking up any offer. A reporter even asked Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott about Daboll and his possibility of a reunion, which he denied.

Another name on the list could be of the former Tennessee Titans‘ head coach, Brian Callahan. The 41-year-old coach’s situation is similar, as the Titans also fired him this season after a 1-5 start. So, while external hires like Daboll and Callahan bring head coaching experience, the Raiders may also look for continuity by promoting from within.

The Raiders quarterback coach, Greg Olson, has the best chance. He was their offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021. But the franchise qualified for the playoffs only once in those 4 years. He was their offensive coordinator earlier in 2013 and 2014, but the team struggled with only 7 wins in two seasons.

On the other hand, it might give way to the assistant quarterbacks/game management coach, Nate Carroll. He hasn’t worked as an offensive coordinator, but Pete Carroll’s team could give him a chance. One concern, however, is the team’s substandard QB performance. Starting quarterback Geno Smith has a 13-13 touchdown-interception ratio.

That issue might force the management to look at the run game coordinator/offensive line coach, Brennan Carroll. Carroll brings an amazing mix of experience as he went back to college in 2021 after spending five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as run game coordinator. He spent three years at the Arizona Wildcats as their offensive coordinator until 2023 before his last year’s stint at the Washington Huskies.

Another interesting coach is Chris Beatty, who often uses his experience as recruiting coordinator to find good picks. Though the Chicago Bears did not retain him after the disastrous 2024 season, their starter, Caleb Williams, has turned the season around this year. He must have helped the Raiders draft running back Ashton Jeanty, but if the team chooses him, he would have to work on their entire offense.

All in all, things are looking pretty grim for the AFC West franchise. They are already 2-9. So, who will be the new person who can handle the pressure?

For now, Carroll thanked Chip Kelly for his services in his final message.
