The Las Vegas Raiders‘ victory over the New England Patriots was bittersweet for Raider Nation as LB Elandon Roberts went off because of an elbow injury and was ultimately carted off the field. But Pete Carroll‘s update came as a welcome relief.

Yes, Pete Carroll dropped some good news during his press conference on Saturday. Elandon Roberts‘ elbow injury? A thing of the past, he was a full participant in Saturday’s practice and is ready to start against the Chargers on Monday. “He laid out and knocked the ball down with the arm in the sling or whatever it was. He’s ready to go,” Pete Carroll said. But this wasn’t the only news Carroll dropped.

He dropped an update on Jackson Powers-Johnson, who suffered a concussion on Thursday. “He rocked a guy in Thursday’s practice, and it had an effect on him. So we gotta take care of him,” he said. His return to play is entirely contingent upon Johnson passing the concussion protocol. Meanwhile, in his absence, Alex Cappa would take the reins. “Alice Kappa is ready to go,” Carroll said.

But the most important update of all? Whether Brock Bowers will suit up this week or not, and Pete Carroll didn’t beat around the bush.

Brock Bowers looks “terrific” according to Pete Carroll

Brock Bowers went off in the 4th quarter vs the Patriots with a knee injury, and told reporters on Thursday that he wasn’t sure if he would play Monday, but was hopeful nonetheless. Turns out, his hope was not without good reason as Pete Carroll sounded nothing but upbeat, saying Bowers “looked terrific” and is on track to suit up on Monday.

Bowers didn’t practice Thursday or Friday, but showed up as a limited participant on Saturday’s injury report. Until yesterday, his suiting up vs the Chargers sounded like a distant possibility. But here we are.

After practice, Bowers told reporters he “felt fine” getting his first work in of the week — though he did point out he was wearing a knee brace, “The brace felt a little different, but it was good just to be back out there with the guys.”

And after the night he had in week 1, this sure is the best news of all. Bowers came out swinging: five catches and 103 yards. From the jump, he and Geno Smith looked locked in, like they’d been working together for years. Pete Carroll will be hoping they will build on that chemistry we got glimpses of last week.
