The Las Vegas Raiders had a twist to their Monday night game versus the Los Angeles Chargers: Team minority owner Tom Brady was seen in the coach’s booth. Dressed in a headset and appearing completely attentive, Brady was observed in the stands observing the game firsthand, quite a departure from his previous largely ceremonial presence on the team. The presence of the seven Super Bowl winners in the booth has raised questions about what he actually does for the Raiders.

Brady purchased an official 10 percent stake in the Raiders in 2024, one that was approved by NFL owners in October. Until this visit, everyone believed that his position with the team was symbolic, attending games, unofficially directing quarterbacks, and keeping the team in the spotlight. However, Monday night contradicted that; Brady’s actual position is much more active. The broadcast reported that the Raiders’ offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, speaks with Brady at least multiple times a week to review game film and map out upcoming games. But there’s more to it.

What does Tom Brady do at Las Vegas Raiders?
Brady’s title with the Raiders is officially minority owner, and he’s not officially in a coaching role. Nevertheless, his function extends past the typical degree of ownership duties. Head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek, who was in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ front office throughout Brady’s playing days, have picked Brady’s brain for offseason roster decisions.

Spytek stated characterizing Brady’s voice as “invaluable” while speaking with ESPN. Meanwhile, Carroll referred to him as a “tremendous asset,” adding that he is someone with whom he talks about life and football.
But let’s not forget that the seven-time Super Bowl winner is also a broadcaster for Fox—a role that was slapped with restrictions while the approval of his ownership stake was still pending.

But Brady can only attend them remotely. Even though still kept away from team buildings for the purpose of watching practice or face-to-face production meetings, the remote access allows him to contribute constructively towards the collective broadcasting effort. He is also permitted off-campus player interviews, which he did at times last year.
The Monday night TV broadcast gave viewers a glimpse, fleeting as it is, of how Brady’s football responsibilities are acted out in a real game. Headset on in the broadcast booth, he observed offenses and defenses face off live. As for his broadcast duties, he is set to call the Cowboys-Bears game in Week 3, with the Raiders scheduled to face the Bears in Week 4.
