Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward didn’t have the smoothest start to the season. During Week 1, the rookie quarterback struggled against the Denver Broncos, throwing for only 112 yards while taking six brutal sacks. Despite that rocky outing, the Titans aren’t sweating it. They know Ward has put in the work to get here, and they’re not ready to write him off just yet.

Meanwhile, the Rams aren’t exactly losing sleep over Ward either. Linebacker Jared Verse, the DROY, one of their top defenders, told the media straight up, “That’s a number one pick. It doesn’t matter. Hey, he’s the number one pick for a reason. Like it doesn’t matter if you’re a rookie quarterback, a vet quarterback, it’s all the same. You like, I’m going to treat you the exact same. It doesn’t change anything in my preparation.”  Sending a strong message to Ward. And it makes sense why Verse is so confident. In his last ten Sunday road games, he’s racked up 23 solo tackles, 15 assists, 4.0 sacks, and even recovered a fumble. That’s not the kind of player you want charging at your blindside.

On top of that, things aren’t looking great for the Titans’ offensive line either. The Titans set the bar high by giving up six sacks to Denver. Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula won’t let that slide. Known for mixing pass rush and coverage schemes to throw QBs off their game, Shula is all set to turn up the heat. Rookie Ward faces a steep learning curve trying to manage the Rams’ aggressive tactics and relentless pressure.

Interestingly, the Rams against the Texans in week 1 didn’t just rely on sacks to make their mark. Their pass rush and coverage combo held the Texans to a mere 151.0 net passing yards. Even standout WRs like Nico Collins and Calvin Ridley couldn’t find their rhythm, combining for just seven catches and 52 yards. So don’t expect Ward’s weapons to have an easy time lighting up the scoreboard this Sunday.

All things considered, Ward’s pocket comfort is about to be tested like never before. The defense smells blood, and Verse is ready to pounce. This is a golden opportunity for the Rams to pile up sacks and make a statement.

Jared Verse might dominate Cam Ward and the Titans

For the Rams, defense doesn’t rely solely on big names. Instead, it thrives on collective effort. And second-year EDGE rusher Jared Verse is the star of this defense. His ability to disrupt plays and pressure the quarterback makes him a pivotal force in the Rams’ defensive strategy.

Interestingly, Week 1 saw three quarterback sacks, but Verse wasn’t on that list. Instead, unexpected players stepped up. DE Tyler Davis, DB Jaylen McCollough, and OLB Byron Young shared the spotlight, with Young standing out by racking up nine tackles and one sack. This surprising performance fired up teammates like defensive tackle Kobie Turner, defensive end Braden Fiske, and Verse, pushing them to amp up their game as they approach Week 2.

Now, the question isn’t, will Verse get to the quarterback, but when. History tells us that players of his caliber consistently make those game-changing plays over the season. While most NFL fans and Fantasy Football enthusiasts see defenses as a whole, the real battle lies in the one-on-one matchups.

On the flip side, Titans coach Brian Callahan trusts Cam Ward to lead the offense. “His demeanor, not getting rattled, staying poised in a really challenging spot was very encouraging, and I was really pleased with that part of his game coming out of that game last week,” Callahan said. Still, with Verse’s aggressive style, the new matchup could tilt in the Rams’ favor.
