Despite having one of the league’s most talented rosters, the Baltimore Ravens have stumbled to a 1-2 start. Still, the season is young, with plenty of opportunities to rebound. Safety Kyle Hamilton argued it’s too early for the Ravens and even “unfair” to place the blame on the Defensive Coordinator Zac Orr. But after back-to-back losses, fans were far from impressed with the Ravens’ safety.

It’s unfair to put all the blame on him when there’s 11 guys out there on the field that are playing their hearts off and he’s put us in the right positions,” Hamilton explained. He further added, “It’s just a matter of us doing the right stuff. And that’s where I feel like the critiques of Zach or whatever coaches are unfair because he can’t go out there and play for us as much as he wants to. He can’t. So, it’s up to us to go out and get the job done. So, it’s not a Zach thing.”

But one of the fans argued, “The last 2 years the Ravens D started as one of the worst defenses in the league, but did eventually turn it around. That said, fans are allowed to criticize what they see on the field when performance is well below average. Welcome to pro sports.

While mistakes were made on both offense and defense, most of the blame has fallen on the latter. The Ravens blew a 15-point fourth-quarter lead and surrendered 41 points to the Buffalo Bills on September 7th. Meanwhile, the offense ranks first in scoring, which explains the chaos. For the first time in four years, Baltimore’s defense sits at the bottom of the NFL rankings. And this is perhaps why Hamilton feels the fans are spoiled.

“I feel like sometimes Ravens fans can be a little spoiled, just, like, the amount of success that this franchise has had,” Hamilton noted. “We lose five games [in 2024] and the world is about to end.” Coach Orr, who isn’t on social media, prefers to ignore all the noise and stay focused on football, concentrating only on improving.

He had the same approach for the game too. “You can either sulk and let it get you down and lay in it, or you [can] get up, pick yourself up, and figure it out. The group of people we have in this organization and the group of people we have in that defensive room — we’re going to figure it out,” Orr said about his struggles.

However, the frustration is understandable as the same issues from the past are repeated.

Fans are upset over Kyle Hamilton’s comment

There have been harsh criticisms to frustration after the team’s rough start this season and issues from Week 1 to Week 3. One fan pointed out the irony in Hamilton calling fans “spoiled,” and wrote, “Just signed a $100M Contract and a member of the Worst Defense in the League, but, yea, it’s the fans making $16/hr and voicing their concerns who are spoiled. The messaging coming out of this team are not from people psychologically fit to win a Championship.”

Hamilton signed a $100 million extension deal with the Ravens in late August 2025. While he will earn $25.1 million annually and $82 million is guaranteed, making him the highest-paid safety, as per Ian Rapoport. While some criticized the safety, others pointed out that being spoiled is good, and that shows the success the Ravens have achieved.

I love Kyle BUT It’s a testament to the success of the football team for us to have expectations where we can be looked at as “spoiled.” The same fans were loud every 3rd & 4th down on Monday and were let down every time. Bottom line, they need to be better,” the fan reminded.

Another fan argued how the team’s fate, as well as Jackson, who is in his 8th year in the league, hopes for the defense to step up. “Can you really blame Ravens fans for being frustrated that in YEAR 8 of Lamar Jackson, we now have to worry about being let down by the defense of all things? It’s been every position at this point in Lamar’s career now. I understand the frustration,” another fan wrote.

After Week 1, cornerback Marlon Humphrey admitted that the defense needs to be mature and avoid simple mistakes that could cost them the game. Humphrey said the Ravens’ struggles come from players trying too hard to make plays on their own instead of working together. He added that the team had the right calls but failed to execute them as a unit. That’s what made the loss especially painful. They knew what was coming, but all 11 players couldn’t get on the same page.

That explains how the Ravens almost had the win if it were not for some simple mistakes. “Don’t call the fans spoiled, bro. Say they have high expectations based on the standard that the team has set for decades, but don’t belittle the fans. That’s not the way,” another said.

Frustration might fade quickly if the Ravens win, but it could snowball if the team suffers another loss.
