Last week, the Carolina Panthers lost 26-0 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and David A. Tepper couldn’t have been more infuriated. He got swayed by his emotions and decided to throw his drink at a fan, quickly becoming the center of cynical remarks. Each big-time journalist shared the same fan-made video, highlighting his outburst. Fans and the NFL community were eagerly waiting for an apology.

Finally, Tepper apologized and had to pay a huge fine because of his behavior. Although some say that the fine is just a minuscule percentage of his net worth, the fact stands that we cannot quantify an apology. However, admitting his shortcomings was a significant step ahead, and Tepper will be on a long road to regain everyone’s trust.

David Tepper takes accountability for his actions

After all this controversy, David Tepper was fined $300,000 for his actions. Greg Auman of Fox Sports shared a tweet showcasing the owner’s apology to the public. The tweet is captioned, “Statement from Panthers owner David Tepper about his actions Sunday in Jacksonville leading to a $300,000 fine from the league.”

Tepper apologized and wrote, “I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday. I should have let the NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”

Also, an interesting tweet from ProFootballTalk regarding the matter suggests that the fine is just 0.00146% of his net worth. Again, we cannot put a price on emotions. For many, a $300k fine would mean a year’s worth of money, but this is chump change for a multi-billionaire like Tepper. An NBC report gives the flip side to the whole situation.

Has Tepper really redeemed himself?

The proposed fine is merely a dent in a man’s bank account with a net worth of more than $20 billion. If we do the math, it’s like fining $14.56 to a person with a million dollars in his bank account, and it barely makes a difference. This fine is not enough for some, and David Tepper shouldn’t be let off that easily.

Many people believe the Panthers owner should be given a much more severe punishment than getting a minuscule fine. The league should conduct a character evaluation and have more robust measures for such transgressions.
