It’s still Week 7 in the 2025 season, and we already have one head coach losing his job after the Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan. And considering the way this season is unfolding for teams like the NY Jets, Miami Dolphins, Saints, Ravens, and Browns, do not be surprised if we see more names joining Callahan in the next couple of months. And if by any chance these teams end up parting ways with their coaches, according to an NFL insider, there are already a few names who are lined up for such high-profile roles.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that several current coordinators could soon become the focus of attention as the season progresses. “If and when more head coaching vacancies across the league open up, these are some names I’m keeping an eye on,” Russini wrote. She continued, “Vikings DC Brian Flores, Broncos DC Vance Joseph, Packers DC Jeff Hafley, Bills OC Joe Brady, and 49ers DC Robert Saleh.” Her list includes assistants, but also experienced coaches who’ve already weathered the NFL’s cruel cycle of opportunity and replacement.

Saleh came back to his previous franchise after spending four years as the Jets head coach with a 20-36 record. He is highly likely to be a perfect fit for franchises if they encounter Titans-like situations.

Flores joined the Minnesota defense in 2023. Under his guidance, the Vikings have become one of the NFL’s most opportunistic units. His tenure as Miami’s head coach ended under controversial circumstances; he was fired despite posting back-to-back winning seasons. His ability to lead a locker room and consistently perform with limited talent makes him one of the most intriguing names on Russini’s watch list.

As for Joseph, the current defensive coordinator in Denver, he has taken the Broncos to a 22-18 record since his comeback in 2023. Joseph was also the head coach of the team during 2017–2018 with an 11-21 record. Like Saleh and Flores, Joseph is a veteran coach with experience. Russini also named Packers DC Jeff Hafley, who came to Green Bay following a successful college coaching career, and Bills OC Joe Brady, whose offensive innovation continues to receive league-wide praise.

The broader theme emerging from Russini’s report is clear: instability is spreading fast across the NFL’s coaching ranks. The Titans’ firing of Brian Callahan has only intensified speculation about which teams might follow next, and which coordinators are ready to step in.

Why did Titans fire coach Brian Callahan?

The Tennessee Titans released Brian Callahan six games into his second season as head coach. Callahan is 4-19 overall with a 1-5 start this season behind rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the 2025 first draft pick.

“We just felt like this was the right time to make a change,” Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said at a press conference Monday night. “We were looking for growth in this football team, and that’s what this is about right now. We’re not seeing enough growth from this football team.”

Senior offensive coordinator Mike McCoy will be the interim head coach. McCoy, with his time spent with the San Diego Chargers from 2013-2016, finished 27-37 with one playoff game.

The offense’s inconsistency and failure to strengthen Ward became the top issues in the team’s decision. Callahan’s departure leaves McCoy with the task of stabilizing a young roster while auditioning for the full-time job, but as the ever-deepening pool of able names around the league arises, Tennessee’s search can rapidly become part of the greater NFL coaching carousel already underway.
