The Code: In hockey culture, it allows players to police each other and yes, that can turn into brawls. The idea was to fill in the gaps in the rulebook, but if you’d ask Jason and Travis Kelce, they would surely love to bring in a piece of it into the NFL. In fact, on a New Heights podcast event back in 2023, they even joyously discussed changing fighting rules in the league with Roger Goodell.
“We think that there’s one rule that would just make the game unbelievable and we wanted to know what’s your thoughts on: Every single game you give one hockey fight per game?” the younger Kelce brother questioned while adding, “The first guy I’m going after is Jason f—ing Kelce.”
You’d think the Kelce brothers were simply joking, but let us tell you, they were not! Fast forward to 2025 and Jason Kelce hasn’t forgotten about their proposal. So when he found himself in a discussion with Roger Goodell on ESPN, he had follow-up questions ready.

Jason Kelce: “Last time I was with you, Roger, we proposed a rule change about one hockey fight being allowed. You said you were going to the rules committee.”
Roger Goodell: “Yep.”
Jason Kelce: “One fight per game. Have they gotten back to you on that rule change?”
Roger Goodell: “They did. But it didn’t turn out so well.”
It’s wild (and funny) how serious J͏ason Kelce is about these potential game-changing rules. But here’s the thing. As per the league’s compliance rules: “The Compliance Department’s jurisdiction covers player behavior on the field, including endangering a fellow player’s safety, fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct and other acts that could be deemed ‘detrimental to the league’.”
“Fighting is strictly prohibited. Using profanity, displaying gang signs and taunting opponents also will draw the league’s attention.”

The brothers believe physical confrontations on the field are important. Plus, the fans would have a blast watching players engage in one-on-one brawls but that being said, we don’t think the NFL, which is quite strict with its rules, would allow something like this anytime soon. But all this still leaves us with one question. Why is Jason Kelce so excited about hockey?
What’s your perspective on:
Are the Kelce brothers onto something with their wild idea for post-game NFL fights?
