The Washington Commanders are going against the New York Jets in a long series of Christmas football games. As both the teams lock horns with each other, the men in green have taken a massive lead in the game with 27-7. The heat of this game has been surrounding the Commanders since the start, especially their HC Ron Rivera. However, it is not just the collapse against the Jets that has raised many eyebrows.

Rather, the 2023 season hasn’t been in favor of the Commanders. Currently, they stand at 4-10 on the leaderboard, last in the NFC East. This has also paved the way for a lot of criticism to circle the team and its members. This time, it was coach Rivera who got compared to Brandon Staley—the coach who was released from the Chargers after a loss against the Raiders.

One of the users on the X platform remarked that Rivera might suffer the same fate as Brandon Staley. “Ron Rivera is going to be spending Christmas with Brandon Staley,” said an account on X. The comment was especially made to highlight the fate suffered by Stanley post the Chargers’ 63-21 mega loss.

Alas, the harsh assumptions didn’t stop at a sarcastic comment. Rather, a couple of other accounts also took a jab at the Commanders’ HC; particularly commenting on the ongoing match against the Jets.

“Ron Rivera and his whole staff should be fired before halftime,” wrote another football enthusiast on X. Since the onset of the game and post the first quarter of the game, comments of similar motion have set the internet on fire. Many fans have voiced support for a change in the management of the Commanders.

Meanwhile, a famous football account on X by the name of MLFootball not only talked about firing Rivera but also brought the offensive coach, Eric Bieniemy into the loop. According to the user, “Washington needs to fire Ron Rivera and Eric Bieniemy between the first and second quarter.” 

As the criticism and scrutiny surround the Commanders’ head coach, it is salient to note that if the speculations do come true, it wouldn’t be the first time this season.
