Two days ago, Russell Wilson was getting absolutely roasted by former NFL journeyman turned TV analyst Chris Simms, who decided to take a blowtorch to the New York Giants quarterback’s leadership skills. For a team limping away from a brutal 3-14 disaster of a season, questions about their new QB1’s ability to rally the troops hit like a gut punch. But here’s the plot twist nobody saw coming. While the talking heads were busy dissecting Wilson’s locker room presence, the man himself was out there proving he’s exactly the kind of leader the Giants desperately need, and he did it in the most unexpected way possible.
He did that at a team fundraising event that just showed everyone what real leadership actually looks like. This Tuesday, Wilson dropped this on his X: “Great Time! Birdies! Laughs! $$$ Raised! @Giants Foundation Fundraiser! Great group of Fellas with the best Caddy in all of Jersey! AL!” And yeah, Russell probably sank some nice putts, but the real win was what he was doing it for – people who actually need the help.
The Giants Golf tournament isn’t about stroking egos. It’s straight-up charity work. They’ve got another event rolling on May 29, where you can play alongside single-digit handicap wizard Nick Haynes, try to keep up with Kieren Briggs’ bomb drives, or bet on Harry Himmelberg to deliver something special.

Here’s the best part. Most of these players are secretly taking golf lessons to get an edge on their teammates. That’s to better bring their A-game and bid hard for a shot at the GIANTS Foundation Cup glory. The prizes are legit too: foundation cup trophy, putting competitions, trips to Vegas, plus all kinds of team and novelty awards. But here’s what really matters – every dollar raised goes straight to the GIANTS Academy to help develop the next wave of talent. It’s about building the future, not just playing golf.
Now, Wilson’s no stranger to the charity game. Back in 2014, he founded WHY NOT YOU? WHY NOT US?, a nonprofit focused on education, kids’ health, and fighting poverty while pushing young people to lead with that “why not you” mentality. Sounds great, right? Well, here’s where it gets messy – there’s been some serious heat about whether Wilson’s been walking the walk. Word is, only about forty percent of the money actually made it to charitable work, which had people calling it more of a scam than a legitimate operation.
But putting that controversy aside for now, what Wilson did with the Giants shows something different. So, what do the Giants reveal about Wilson? Honestly, it doesn’t look good for him.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Russell Wilson the leader the Giants need, or just another QB under pressure to perform?

Wilson’s Giants debut: Buckle up, it’s gonna be bumpy
Switching NFL teams as a quarterback is like trying to recreate your mom’s cooking in someone else’s kitchen. Just because you crushed it somewhere else doesn’t mean the magic will translate. Right now, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are walking into one hell of a pressure cooker with the Giants. These two veterans are supposed to be the saviors of a historic franchise that’s been stuck in neutral for way too long.

The Giants need someone—anyone—to make their offense respectable again in 2025. But the doubters are already circling like vultures, and honestly? They might have a point.

Sitting behind all this drama is rookie Jaxson Dart, who lit it up at Ole Miss and is just waiting for his shot. Sure, the Giants are talking about giving him a redshirt year. But we all know how that goes when the veterans start struggling. NFL.com’s Kevin Patra isn’t buying the hype around Wilson and Winston at all.

He’s basically saying neither guy has earned the right to walk into a starting job. Moreover, he’s predicting both will put up weaker numbers than they did last season. “Brian Daboll might have already named Wilson the starter. But I’m going to keep writing that one in pencil,” Patra said. “Nothing Wilson has done in the past three years has indicated he should be handed a starting job at this stage.” Winston’s situation is even weirder.
The dude was supposed to compete for the starting gig until Wilson showed up with more guaranteed money. He basically pushed him down the depth chart. Now, with Dart in the mix, Winston might not even lock down the backup spot. The Giants are betting big on experience, but sometimes experience just means you’re really good at losing in different ways.
