On Thursday, Russell Wilson was all smiles and sunshine as he watched the draft from the MetLife Stadium. He was rocking his new jersey and posted a lot of photos and videos on his socials with the fans. When Abdul Carter was announced the 3rd overall pick for the New York Giants, Wilson looked happy. He even tagged Carter in an Instagram story hyping up the new addition. But the show was not over. The Giants traded with the Houston Texans and moved up to the 25th overall pick. And that’s when things got interesting.

The New York Giants now have a new QB. That was the headline. The Giants took Jaxson Dart as their 2nd pick, and the fans lost it. But amid all the cheers and celebrations, one silence rang particularly loud – Russell Wilson’s. It was like saying, ‘Monkey D. Luffy will never be the King of the pirates.’ This was more notable since he was so avidly hyping up Carter already. So, a word or two about the Ole Miss QB joining their ranks wouldn’t have gone amiss. This change in behavior during the draft party did not go unnoticed by the fans. Giants have had an eye on Ole Miss for quite some time, so this clearly wasn’t that big of a surprise. But was Wilson not happy?

Well, after much speculation and comments from the fandom, Wilson finally broke his silence on the matter. The Giants have been dropping hype posts for their fresh signings ever since the draft started. Russell Wilson finally took to Instagram to share a story of the Giants’ post featuring Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart posing with their No. 1 jerseys. In his story, Wilson tagged both the players, and the caption went, “Congrats fellas💪🏽 Let’s go win!!!” Maybe it was all the memes and speculations that got to him, but he finally opened up and welcomed the two.

After the much awaited congratulations from Russell Wilson, Abdul Carter joins the team as a linebacker, and Jaxson Dart joins the packed room of the Giants’ quarterbacks. Packed? Yeah, there’s no shortage of QB talent when it comes to the Giants’ QB room. And does bring an interesting question, who will be the starter? But don’t worry, we have that answer too.

Brian Daboll’s starter verdict for 2025 is here!

Fact: Jameis Winston has a two-year contract with the Giants, and Russell Wilson has a one-year contract. Conclusion? Neither of them is seen as a long-term solution to the team. So, the Giants definitely needed a new QB, someone they can slowly prime for long-term success. Even before the ‘24 season ended, GM Joe Schoen was spotted at an Ole Miss game. They also evaluated Jaxson Dart through a private workout session. The signs were always there, and now they have turned into reality with Dart joining the fray. But there was still a question that needed answering: who’s gonna kickoff the games as a starter?

On a Thursday presser after the 1st round, Giants HC Brian Daboll gave the answer. “Russ will be our starter, and that’s how it will be once we get started here in the spring.” Well, there you go. Russell Wilson will be the starting QB for the Spring. But what about Dart then? Daboll has further added, “We’re going to do everything we can to develop (Dart) and bring him along. I like the way (Dart) plays; I like his competitive fire, and I like his accuracy. I like his ability to push the ball down the field and his athletic ability to run with the football.” The message is clear. While Russell and Jameis are playing, we expect Dart to learn and develop extensively.

So once this season ends, and Dart’s exp bar looks a bit fuller, he will be bringing his game to the gridiron. But Dart is already quite pumped to join the Giants. If he can impress everyone during the training camp, we might even see him earlier than we think. This guy certainly has the skill set to do just that. As the draft drama culminates on the final day, we can probably expect a few more surprises. The Giants still have 4 picks in the upcoming rounds, and what they do will have our fullest attention. For now, we can rest easy knowing Russell Wilson is our starter.
