When the Giants signed Jameis Winston, everyone was happy and looking forward to seeing a better team. But fans were more shocked to see Russell Wilson‘s entry after Jameis. However, there are other QBs in the room. And that’s where the game gets tricky. But, you know, as we are moving towards the 2025 season, the Giants fans might not doubt that Wilson will be the starting QB, right? You also might have heard the same. But there is one problem for Wilson.
Even after the 2025 NFL Draft, nothing seemed likely to shake Russell Wilson’s hold on the upcoming season. But now, there’s a new sheriff in town—and his name is Jaxson Dart. Yes, this rookie could pose a serious threat to Wilson’s future with the New York Giants, and there are several reasons why—especially after a strong showing at rookie minicamp, where Dart made a clear impact.
NFL Rookie Watch, via X (formerly Twitter), reported that multiple people within the Giants believe Dart “has the talent” to become the team’s starting quarterback this season. They also added: “One source close to the situation believes Dart’s ‘raw arm talent’ is exponentially ahead of the rest of the Giants’ QB room (which includes Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito).” Notably, the Giants selected Jaxson Dart over Shedeur Sanders, a decision that may soon become even more significant.

Initially, the pick looked like a major mistake as everyone was bashing the Giants for not picking Sanders. But right now, it doesn’t look like a mistake. The guy has great arm talent. He moves fast (which is a major drawback in Russell Wilson’s case), and he will be one of the greats in athleticism.
And to talk about his strengths, they fit perfectly for the Giants’ needs. According to his NFL combine profile, he gets across the full field of progressions when he needs to. Jaxson Dart is a pretty good situational decision-maker on third downs. Apart from this, he has a great arm talent. He showed there skills in the recent minicamp. The performance was so good that Brian Daboll is reportedly thinking about Jaxson as QB1.
Jaxson Dart got a bigger push after the rookie minicamp
NFL insiders told the NFL Rookie Watch page that Dart reportedly turned heads throughout Giants rookie minicamp, completing 8/10 passes during the first practice and 7/13 in the second practice, including a 46-yard TD pass. The minicamp went so well for the newly added QB that he is getting in the list of competition to Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.

Looking back at Jaxson Dart’s 2024 college football season, he more than delivered. He completed 276 of 398 passes, finishing with an impressive 69.3% completion rate. He also threw for 4,279 yards—a monster stat line that clearly reflects NFL-level potential.
In fact, recent data suggests Dart could have an even better career than Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes after scoring a 100 SPS (Success Prediction Score), a metric used to project NFL success.

Things are heating up fast. And all eyes are on Dart as he steps into the spotlight with a real shot at shaking up the Giants’ quarterback room. Could he actually push Russell Wilson out of the starting role? It may sound bold—or even unlikely. But based on his poise, confidence, and standout performance in camp, it’s no longer out of the question.
The pressure is mounting, and this could be the kind of quarterback battle that defines the Giants’ season. If Dart continues to trend upward, we may be witnessing the start of a major shift under center.
