Things in AFC North seem to be heating up. While the Pittsburgh Steelers added to their strength by signing QB Russell Wilson and the Browns are climbing the division ladder after landing talented athletes in the NFL Draft this year, the Bengals seem to be in hot waters. After all, with Joe Burrow finally back at practice and Tee Higgins asking for a raise and change in his contract, Cincinnati has their back up against the wall.

In a recent episode of The Carton Show, the host, Craig Carton, broke down the odds for each team in the AFC North. During the conversation, Plaxico Burress shared that he believed the Cincinnati Bengals had a good chance with Burrow back at the off-season team practice session after his hand injury during the playoffs. While the host agreed with the former WR, he added a strong emphasis on the 27-year-old’s health.

The 55-year-old stated that although the situation brewing with WR Higgins and his contract extension demand could affect the teams’ lineup, Carton added that even Russell Wilson could stir things up for other teams. However, he also stated, “If Joe Burrow is healthy, I would never count the Cincinnati Bengals out.” After all, the quarterback had started last season in full swing but had to be taken out after a ligament tore in his wrist right in November.

The NFL world went into a frenzy when the Bengals announced that Joe Burrow was back at training. However, the QB’s contract could cause problems for his teammate, Tee Higgins, and his contract extension negotiations.

Why the Bengals could lose WR Tee Higgins

During the same episode of The Carton Show, Craig Carton addressed the rumors surrounding the Bengals wide receiver, Tee Higgins. With the 25-year-old having requested a trade a few months ago because of a lack of effort to extend his contract, the future looked grim. Now, the 55-year-old stated, “The Brown family, Mike Brown who has run the Bengals for a very, very long time, are notoriously cheap.”

“However, that being said, they did give Joe Burrow $250 million, so they have kinda gone outside their comfort zone financially,” Carlton continued. Although he could be right, Burrow’s contract sees him getting $55 million per year, which amounts to $257 million in his five-year-contract. With the Browns having signed the quarterback in September of last year, Higgins might be out of luck with his extension.

Thankfully, the 25-year-old has given his team until 15th July, before he officially walks away. Although it might end up happening, Chad Johnson, a former Bengals legend, recently reassured fans that things would settle down. He told ESPN, “I think we’re going to work it out. We’ll figure it out.”

With no word from the Bengals owners or head coach, Zac Taylor, fans might be left waiting a while for answers. However, there is a chance the team will not want to lose Higgins. After all, he has been considered their best player ever since he joined the team.
