Let’s be real — when celebrities take the stage, it’s usually to drop a beat, launch a brand, or throw down a hot collab. But Russell Wilson‘s wife Ciara is built different. She just used her spotlight to salute someone who actually defines the word hero, and fans were here for it. In a powerful Memorial Day moment, the Grammy-winning singer and wife of NFL QB delivered a game-changing tribute that’s still echoing across social media.

While hosting the American Music Awards on 2025 Memorial Day, she opened with a bang and introduced herself as “a proud daughter of a daughter of two veterans.” She further revealed that the event partner, Easy Day Foundation, supported the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Ciara introduced none other than Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta, the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War. That’s not just a flex, that’s history walking on stage. In 2007, he was caught in an ambush but risked everything to save his injured friend. That takes courage.

The truth is, Cici didn’t need to do this. She could’ve kept it light, dropped a summer bop, and bounced. But instead? She chose to shine her spotlight on sacrifice and mentioned in the caption, “This Memorial Day, we’re celebrating music and making an impact in honor of those who have served.” Staff Sergeant Giunta didn’t just serve, he ran into gunfire in Afghanistan to save his brothers in arms.

Because for Russ and Ciara, honoring the troops isn’t a seasonal trend, it’s personal.

This wasn’t a one-time gesture for Russell Wilson. He’s been walking the walk for over a decade.

Russell Wilson & Ciara – Personal connection to the Military

While Ciara grew up in different cities as an army brat, the quarterback understood the hard moments behind the service. He never misses a chance to pay his respects. Flashback to 2014, Russ boarded a military plane and flew to Afghanistan with the USO. He wasn’t there for a photo shoot, he was there to toss footballs on dusty bases, eat MREs with soldiers, and show them someone from back home still gave a damn.

He’s shown up for every branch, visiting military hospitals, calling deployed dads on Christmas, and even inviting veterans onto the Seahawks practice field for a VIP day they’ll never forget. One vet posted after meeting Wilson that he would always remember meeting the NFL superstar. In 2015, he once upgraded a veteran’s seat from economy to first-class on a flight.

When she teamed up with Operation Homefront, she didn’t just post a link. She helped raise money to support military families with housing, school supplies, and childcare.
