Just hours before the end of the trade deadline, the Seattle Seahawks have struck a deal. According to the report of NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks have agreed to a trade with the New Orleans Saints for wide receiver and return man Rashid Shaheed. And soon, his trade deal was followed up by reactions from Saints’ players.

New Orleans Saints’ wide receiver Chris Olave tweeted, “You got a great one bro” just after the news of Saheed’s trade was made public through Rapoport’s report.
Just after an hour, Olave tweeted another message for the trade. “Sheed the speed monster!!!” Olave tweeted.

It was an obvious response from Olave as he has been playing with Rasheed since 2022. Both Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed have often been referred to as “speed demons”. They have even co-hosted a youth football camp together, which shows their strong bond. However, it was Saint’s situation in the current season that prompted them to pursue the trade deal.
After a 1-8 start to the season, it was obvious for the Saints to be a seller at the NFL trade deadline. In exchange for sending the speedy shade to the Seahawks, the Saints received a fourth-round and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

For Rashid Shaheed, it was a reunion with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who is in his first season with the Seahawks after spending 2024 as the Saints’ offensive coordinator, and for the Saints, they recouped solid draft capital.
Shaheed, at 27, is in the final year of his rookie contract, and this means he will be a rental option for his new team. In the current season, Shaheed has 499 receiving yards on 44 catches and 66 targets with two touchdowns. Also, on the 10 punt returns, Shaheed has 129 yards.

Last year, under Kubiak, Rashid Shaheed had caught 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns before he was injured and was able to play only 6 games in the season. Shaheed also rushed for 29 yards on six rushes. There is no doubt that Shaheed is one of the fastest and most electrifying receivers in the NFL, and this is exactly what the Seahawks needed if they were searching for speed.
But what is the current status of the Seahawks’ offense, which Shaheed will be joining?

Shaheed has joined a Seahawks offense that has a leading receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and rookie Tory Horton.
The Seahawks won their last game against the Washington Commanders without wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is out of action because of a heel and hamstring injury. Also, wide receiver Dareke Young is out of action because of a hip injury.

The Seattle Seahawks are currently 6-2 and are tied for first position in the NFC West and NFC as a whole. Seahawks are soaring high, thanks to a spectacular performance by quarterback Sam Darnold throughout the season and a solid defense under head coach Mike Macdonald, which has allowed only 18.8 points per game.

The Seahawks’ current statistics and performance have increased their chances of dominating the NFC West and winning the Super Bowl. The addition of Rashid Shaheed might give the Seahawks’ offense the boost they have been searching for.
