The New Orleans Saints made another move, and guess what? It’s wild! With Derek Carr possibly missing a chunk of the season due to his shoulder injury, they were rumored to be looking at QB prospects in the draft. Now they’ve got one… but it’s not the name everyone expected. The 2025 NFL Draft has begun on Day 2, and still, Shedeur Sanders’ NFL future is hanging on a thin thread.
Yes! With the No. 40 overall pick in the draft, the Saints have selected Tyler Shough. For context, as per NFL Rumors, “#Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough played with TE Juwan Johnson at Oregon and is now reunited with him. Juwan Johnson is entering his 6th year in the NFL.”
Anyway, this time, picked at 40th overall by the Saints, the Chandler Hamilton kid made it. His road wasn’t smooth, though. From Oregon to Texas Tech, to Louisville – it was long, full of injuries, setbacks, and doubts. But he never quit. Instead of going pro early, he bet on himself, asked for a seventh college season, and made it count.

Over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns later, he proved he belonged. And so, when the call came, he was back in Scottsdale, celebrating with his wife, his family, and even his dog. It’s definitely a celebration moment for the QB and his new home, New Orleans.
Tyler Shough’s got talent, no doubt about it. But he’s not your usual rookie story. He’s already 26 this fall, with seven long seasons of college ball behind him. That’s a lot of mileage. Sure, he ran Louisville’s offense smoothly and showed flashes that turn heads. He’s got tools, and there’s real starter upside. But for the Saints, time isn’t exactly on their side, they’ll need him to develop fast and prove he belongs in the big league sooner rather than later.
But let us remind you that Tyler Shough turned heads when he became the first quarterback taken in the second round.
What’s your perspective on:
Did the Saints make a mistake by picking Shough over Sanders? What's your take on this?

Shedeur Sanders is still waiting for his turn!
QB Tyler Shough’s entry in the league is catching a lot of people off guard. All eyes had been on Shedeur Sanders, who was expected to go in the first round. But somehow, he slid out of it. That slide surprised fans. The fact that Shough, not Sanders, got the call first left people talking. It raised eyebrows and stirred questions no one quite saw coming.

According to former NFLer, Robert Griffin III on X, “Tyler Shough is a good QB. His arm is one of the more lively arms in this NFL Draft Class.” But there is a but… “His tape was not better than Shedeur Sanders’ tape. Period.” No doubt, Shough getting drafted ahead of Sanders, considered as one of the best QBs in the class, has raised eyebrows for all.
Shough is a 25-year-old rookie quarterback who is 2nd all-time in yards per game passing (266.3). In 2024, he threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns, and across his college career, he covered around 7,820 yards. That’s impressive! But what’s worrying is, Shedeur Sanders is still on the bridge, unable to move in a direction, waiting for a team to draft him. Till now, other QBs like Cam Ward, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel have been selected in the 2025 draft.
