Drew Brees was present at the Caesars Superdome. After the game, he shared an Instagram story and revisited the Saints’ 2020 roster with an emotional message.

After the game,

Drew Brees posted an Instagram photo with Saints QB Taysom Hill and Giants QB Jameis Winston. It was a post-game picture, taken as the stadium was empty, with a screen in the background flashing the 26-14 score. It might look like a random picture of two quarterbacks with one former quarterback, but Brees’ caption changed the perspective of the picture. Brees accompanied the post with the caption, “Man, this was one heck of a QB room back in 2020 🙂 I miss these guys! @ts_hill @jaboowins”, tagging the Instagram accounts of both Hill and Winston.

Brees reflected on the Saints’ 2020 roster, where he started at quarterback with Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston backing him up. Hill, though listed as a QB, filled multiple roles as a true hybrid player. Despite battling injuries, Brees delivered a strong season, completing 275 passes for 2,942 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions with a 70.5% completion rate, leading New Orleans to a 12-4 record and a fourth straight NFC South title.

Backup QBs Hill and Winston stepped in when the team needed them. When Brees missed four games due to cracked ribs and a punctured lung, Hill was named the starting QB. Out of the four games he led the team as QB, the Saints won three and lost only the last game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a close call, 21-24.

On the other side, backup

QB Jameis Winston didn’t get much exposure and played in only four games when Brees was sidelined. He completed 7 of 11 passes for 75 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions, and added 6 rushing yards (8 carries). His highlight in the postseason was a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tre’Quan Smith when he joined the game for a trick play. But in 2021, he returned as Brees’ successor and beat out Taysom Hill for the QB1 spot. However, his current situation with the Giants doesn’t look promising.

Winston trade rumours flare up

Jameis Winston signed a two-year, $8,000,000 contract with the Giants. However, Winston hasn’t seen much action in the 2025 season. After the Giants benched Russell Wilson, rookie Jaxson Dart took over the role. Both Giants’ Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart are now the backup and starter, while Winston has been listed as the emergency quarterback, sparking trade rumors in the NFL.

Jameis Winston stands out as the NFL’s top third-string quarterback, making him arguably the most attractive trade candidate. But since the Giants don’t have

Tommy DeVito as they released him, letting Winston go is easier said than done for the Giants.

With all that unfolding in the Bengals’ quarterback room, it appears increasingly likely that Cincinnati will explore a trade for a signal-caller capable of stabilizing the team during Burrow’s absence. Even if the Bengals are ready to give up a sixth-round pick for Winston, the Giants would have to consider accepting the deal.

Winston’s talent far exceeds a third-string role, making him a prime trade candidate, even for a late-round pick. For the Bengals, he represents one of the few viable external QB options capable of winning games.

Although Brees has shared a post looking back on his career, Winston’s current situation with the Giants suggests that he will not see live action for a long time. Although the Giants have their own reasons for not trading Winston, the possibility of a trade always remains.
