Four years without a playoff berth have consequences in New Orleans. The latest casualty: a hometown hero sent packing to an NFL rival. Kellen Moore’s New Orleans Saints parted ways with a seven-season veteran. Naturally, the trade has drawn reactions from the Who Dat Nation, including the team’s players, such as the star quarterback, Tyler Shough.

“A New Orleans native and LSU alum who repped his hometown team like a true pro on and off the field, thank you for everything,” wrote the Saints’ official Instagram page of the franchise.

Foster is a New Orleans native who played for LSU in collegiate football. However, when he went to the 2019 NFL Draft in the fourth round, he was picked by the Oakland Raiders, aka Las Vegas Raiders. He spent his initial four seasons with them before a homecoming in 2023 when the Saints roped in the tight end.

In the past three campaigns with the Saints, he played 43 games, taking the field as a starter in 36. While he was the TE2 in his first season with the franchise, he became a starter in the 2024 season, playing all 17 games. With 32 receptions, 413 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns, it was his most impactful year in New Orleans. Unfortunately, 2025 produced new lows.

Last year, his production dropped significantly, and it did not help that he was on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the beginning of the season. Although Foster started 9 of the 11 games, he only managed 59 receiving yards and failed to get a single TD for the first time in his NFL career.

For the Texans, his free agency allowed them to swoop in. Even with Dalton Schultz delivering a steady 82-catch, 777-yard season for Houston, there was no insurance for injuries. Brevin Jordan was ruled out for the year yet again, raising fresh durability concerns.

That left C.J. Stroud short on secondary options at a position that thrives on versatility. Enter Foster Moreau, a proven presence, offering exactly what Houston lacked: a dependable TE2.

Just like Foster Moreau suited up for his hometown Saints, even Marshawn Lynch had his own full-circle moment. Born and raised in Oakland, Lynch returned to the Raiders in 2017. But even that fairytale was short-lived, lasting just two seasons before he walked away again.

Now, Moreau is heading to Texas, as the Houston Texans signed him from free agency on a two-year deal worth $6 million. Amid this move, the Saints fans have poured their thoughts on the TE’s exit.

The New Orleans Saints picked Tyler Shough in last year’s draft, and he is set to be their starting quarterback next season. However, the 26-year-old will not be playing with Foster Moreau. On the social media post, the QB left a message for the TE, calling him “My guy.”

Some users spoke about how lucky they are to get to play for their hometown in the NFL.

“This guy got to live the dreams of millions and millions of little boys. Who does not want to grow up and play for their home NFL team? How many actually get to do it? Very few,” the user pointed out.

Meanwhile, other fans focused on the player’s achievements throughout his career, speaking about both on- and off-field battles.

“Dude grew up in nola, went to LSU, beat cancer,” the user expressed.

Additionally, some fans did not hold back their criticism amid the departure, dragging him for dropping a wide-open touchdown pass

“Tysm we would have made the playoffs 2023,” one fan sarcastically noted while another one chimed in as well. “ill never forget that drop bro.”

The Houston Texans already have a starting tight end in Dalton Schultz alongside Brevin Jordan. Therefore, Foster will most likely add depth to the group next season.
