Essentials Inside The Story

  • Fresh off a Super Bowl win, the Seattle Seahawks are already staring at tough roster decisions
  • The front office's priorities are clear but risky
  • Seattle's mock draft path hints at a philosophy shift

The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl LX champions after defeating the New England Patriots. The organization did a terrific job helping to further resurrect the career of quarterback Sam Darnold and received incredible contributions from its 2025 draft class. Now comes the tough part, as key players are expected to hit free agency, which means John Schneider and company have their work cut out to keep the franchise on top.

Seattle Seahawks’ needs

Defensive End/Pass Rusher:

Mike Macdonald believes in quantity as much as he believes in quality at the defensive end/edge rusher spot. Their present starters are both over 30 years of age, as Leonard Williams will be 32 this season and DeMarcus Lawrence is one year his senior at age 33. Derick Hall has done a solid job since being selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, yet he’s entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Wide Receiver:

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has displayed great progress since being selected in the first round in 2023 and was a dominant wideout this past season. Cooper Kupp was reliable and came up with some big receptions, as did Rashid Shaheed after being acquired during an in-season trade with the New Orleans Saints, yet another pair of productive hands is needed as Kupp closes out his career.

Interior Offensive Line:

Seattle hit paydirt last season with Grey Zabel, its first-round pick in 2025. An upgrade is needed over Anthony Bradford, the right guard, who struggled down the stretch and is slated for free agency.

MOCK DRAFT

ROUND 1: Derrick Moore/Edge/Michigan

Seattle likes to do things its own way come draft day, and Moore is a perfect fit for their scheme.

He’s an explosive defender who can rush the passer, standing over tackle and out of a three-point stance. Macdonald will also love the nasty attitude Moore plays with.

ROUND 2: Germie Bernard/WR/Alabama

Bernard is more of a third-round pick, but the Seahawks own the final selection in every frame.

He’s a smart, sure-handed wideout who gives away a bit of speed, but he makes up for it with a reliable game.

ROUND 3: Billy Schrauth/G/Notre Dame

In my opinion, Schrauth is one of the most underrated interior offensive linemen in the draft.

He’s a dominant run blocker who holds his own in pass protection and has shown great improvement in his game over the past two seasons.

ROUND 6: Charles Demmings/CB/Stephen F. Austin

Depth is needed at cornerback, and the Seahawks have a storied history of developing tall, athletic corners, which is exactly what Demmings is.
