One player who has harnessed the power of technology to enhance his performance is Jayden Daniels. His strategic use of virtual reality training has not only propelled him to success but also caught the attention of his peers. According to The Athletic’s report, Daniels attributes much of his growth as a quarterback to his consistent utilization of virtual reality simulations.

This Friday, news broke that the Seahawks’ newest QB, Jalen Milroe, will be using VR for his training. JPA Football shared on their X handle, “Jayden Daniels may have started a new trend. As he’s notorious for heavily using virtual reality to prepare for games and get more reps. Jalen Milroe will be the next quarterback to utilize virtual reality.” That’s interesting.

Daniels told The Athletic, “It moves faster within VR than it does with actual human beings. Once you get out there, everything slows down. I know this is coming. I’ve seen this before, and it moved more than 20 times faster in VR.” Daniels made VR training a requirement for any team drafting him. Now, he’s having one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history, according to CBS Sports.
This technology played a major role in the Commanders’ 45–31 win over the Detroit Lions. That was in the divisional round on January 18, 2025. They, hence, secured their first NFC Championship appearance since 1991. But did VR really improve Daniels’s play?
Jayden Daniels threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns in that game. Pro Football Network reported that his VR setup helped him “read defenses 80% faster.” The tool was developed by Cognilize. It was first used by Daniels at LSU, where he threw 50 touchdowns and won the Heisman Trophy.
Commanders‘ offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury embraced VR in Daniels’ routine. That’s because it allowed him to get extra reps without physical strain. On January 21, the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) named Daniels both Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. That made him just the second player in Washington’s history to win both.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Jayden Daniels' success proof that VR is the future of quarterback training?
Have an interesting take?
Since 1974, PFWA has named an All-Rookie team each year to recognize top first-year pros. Jayden Daniels started all 17 games for Washington. He also became the first player ever to record over 1,000 passing yards and 250 rushing yards in his first five NFL games. He rushed 148 times for 891 yards—the second-most among quarterbacks. Jayden also became the first rookie to post an 80% or higher completion rate in four games during a single season. If you think the Seahawks are all about VR tech, think again! Their main focus is actually on their training camp.
Jalen Milroe’s journey begins: Recap of his first minicamp with the Seahawks
Af͏ter͏ flashing h͏i͏s million-dollar smile during his fi͏rst Seaha͏wks pr͏a͏ctice, third-round pick Jalen ͏Milroe sh͏ows that he is ͏all business͏. Growing up with military parents—his father, Quentin, in the Marines and his mother, Lola, in the Navy—Jalen Milroe developed a deep-rooted work ethic. Both attended the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp kickoff on Friday. “Having two military parents, you definitely emphasize determination, grit, goals—short-term and long-term—and understanding that it takes a team,” Milroe said. “I don’t believe in the word ‘self-made’ at all. It takes a team to accomplish what you want. My team was here today at practice.”
Milroe showed strong passing skills, working through routes with impressive touch on deep throws. At Alabama, he completed 64% of his passes, throwing for 45 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Over the past year and a half, he has refined his mechanics with former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer in California—the same coach who has worked with Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Seahawks starter Sam Darnold. Milroe has especially focused on using his lower body to generate strength and accuracy in his throws.

The Seattle Seahawks kicked off their rookie minicamp, giving the team—and the 12th Man—a first look at their newest draft class. One of the most intriguing picks this year? Quarterback Jalen Milroe, taken in the third round—the highest QB selection Seattle has made since Russell Wilson in 2012.
For the first time, fans got a glimpse of Milroe in a Seahawks jersey, thanks to footage from The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar. Head coach Mike Macdonald has already said Milroe could see some game action in 2025. While veteran Sam Darnold, signed this spring, is expected to take most of the starting reps, Milroe’s presence significantly impacts the team.

Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak worked with a dual-threat backup like Taysom Hill last season in New Orleans. Hence making it likely Milroe will get on the field in some capacity. Quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels and Milroe always draw the spotlight. And in Seattle, Milroe is already shaping up to be one of the franchise’s most talked-about storylines—this year and beyond.
