It’s Sam Darnold’s world, and we’re just living in it. And in his latest prime-time beatdown, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback once again proved why.

During the 38-14 win vs the Washington Commanders, Darnold tied the franchise record for consecutive completions (17) in a game, per his team on X. The last record was set by Warren Moon in 1998.
What’s more, during the game, Darnold reportedly completed all 16 pass attempts for 282 yards in the first half. These also included two touchdowns to rookie WR Tory Horton, and one each to WR Cody White and TE Elijah Arroyo. In fact, the signal caller threw just three incomplete passes, even lower than his number of touchdowns in the game.

He was nearly flawless all afternoon, completing 21 of 24 passes for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns, finishing with a 141.0 passer rating and a total QBR of 97.8, the highest of his career. According to ESPN Research, there have been only four instances this season of a player recording a QBR of 97 or higher, and Darnold owns three of them.
Notably, in 8 games so far, the QB has a touchdown percentage of 7.4, a completion percentage of 70.4 and 9.6 yards per attempt, while throwing for 2,084 yards with 16 TDs, just five interceptions, and a 116.0 passer rating, both career highs. His total QBR of 77.7 ranks 3rd among the NFL QBs. By all standards, he is proving his elite status. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald also agrees.

“Sam’s execution right now is just ridiculous,” the HC said.
As for Darnold himself, it was only after someone pointed it out in the locker room did he realize he’d made history.
“Obviously, I can feel the flow of the game and understand that we’re doing really good on offense, but no, I didn’t know that I hadn’t thrown an incompletion,” the player said post-game. “It’s pretty cool. Someone at halftime said to me that I hadn’t thrown an incompletion, so I think he’s to blame for throwing an incompletion in the second half.”
But keeping that third-quarter interception aside, Darnold’s accuracy, poise, and control defined the game, as he never allowed Washington’s defense to settle in. The team managed to take a 31-7 lead in the first 30 minutes of regulation and never looked back.

WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the way with 8 catches for 129 yards in three quarters, and looks poised to pull off the highest single-season yardage total in league history.
The Seahawks’ offense averaged 13.8 yards per pass attempt and didn’t allow a single sack, showing a complete command of the field. After the game, Darnold praised the team’s execution.
DARNOLD ON 🔥
With that 8-yard pass, Sam Darnold has tied the franchise record for consecutive completions in a game.

“We’re a lot better on third down today than we have been the last couple weeks,” he said. “You could feel it right from the get, offense, defense, everything. We came out with a sense of urgency and we’re just excited to get that win.”
Defensively, the Seahawks were just as sharp. LB Tyrice Knight led the team with 10 tackles (4 solo), while LB Drake Thomas and DE Leonard Williams also recorded sacks. Safety Ty Okada came up with a key interception as the Seahawks held Daniels to just 153 passing yards, four sacks and one interception.
From start to finish, it was a complete performance. For Darnold, it was another reminder that he’s not just playing efficiently. He’s rewriting his own career narrative, one record at a time. Yet….
Sam Darnold rested for the backup QB
Head coach Mike Macdonald made a move late in the game that spoke volumes about both confidence and control. With the game well in hand, Macdonald decided to bench Sam Darnold in the second half. Not because of poor play, but because Darnold had already done enough. The coach wanted to protect his quarterback and give backup Drew Lock some live reps.
With Darnold resting, Lock came in and finished the game efficiently. He closed the dominant performance without letting the Commanders gain any momentum. Lock didn’t need to take risks. He simply maintained the tempo that Darnold had set. The Seattle Seahawks are 6–2, and the biggest reason behind that surge is Sam Darnold. He’s transformed from a stopgap starter into one of the league’s most efficient quarterbacks.
By the time Macdonald called Lock’s number in the week 9 game, the outcome was already decided. But the message was clear. The Seahawks are not just hot, they’re disciplined, confident, and built to play smart football.
