The most improved team this offseason is without a doubt the Denver Broncos.” Former NFL star Chase Daniel said this while praising Sean Payton’s focus on strengthening the quarterback’s best friend–the defense. But the same could be said for their efforts on offense—if, and only if, they make the right move. So, what’s the current state of the free-agent market?

Watch What’s Trending Now!

The NFL’s free-agency madness kicked off last Monday, and the Broncos wasted no time making moves. They locked in key talent like Evan Engram while other teams scrambled to do the same. Now, things are slowing down. But one group is still waiting–veteran receivers. They may not be in their prime, but they’ve still got plenty left in the tank. So, Sean Payton’s team, who still has gaps to fill in running back, receiver, and punter positions, could look for them.

If we talk about the punters, there is not much left in the market. And in the case of the RBs, the best one left in the market is J.K. Dobbins. So, it’s quite possible that Sean Payton’s team would consider the NFL Draft for their future filling. But what about the veteran WRs? Well, as per the reports, in the receiver position, the Broncos could eye for Joe Burrow’s ex-teammate, Tyler Boyd.

Joe Burrow’s team, the Bengals drafted Boyd, 30, in 2016. His advantage is he acts as a steady slot presence in his team. Although his performance has declined a bit, we can’t forget his impressive 39 catches record last season with the Titans. Adding cherry to the top–he has only missed a total of six passes in his last four years in the league. So, Boyd could be a great option for Sean Payton, especially when his receiver slot is open.

Besides him, other veteran names such as Elijah Moore and Brandin Cooks are available in the market as well. Moore has had a tough break with quarterbacks. From New York to Cleveland, instability followed. Still, he’s managed 120 catches in two seasons. Now a free agent, he won’t cost much. If the Broncos need a slot weapon, he’s a strong option too.

On the other hand, Brandin Cooks has a history with Sean Payton. They have worked together during their Saints time. Once a top playmaker, he struggled in 2024 with just 26 catches for 259 yards. However, he’d bring depth and come cheap for the team that gets him. So, Sean Payton could also look for this 31-year-old veteran player. But what if the team doesn’t select any of these?

Sean Payton and the Broncos are eyeing the NFL Draft too?

If Sean Payton and his team decide to not opt for any veteran receiver this time, then it’s obvious what they will look for in the NFL Draft. But what if we tell you that they are already predicted to choose a “Nightmare?”

Yes! As per Mel Kiper Jr.’s NFL Mock Draft predictions, Sean Payton’s Broncos can take Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan in the first round. With running back Javonte Williams gone, and top running backs likely off the board, Denver could shift focus.

McMillan is a beast – 6’4″, 219 pounds, and a proven playmaker. Over three seasons, he racked up 213 catches, 3,423 yards, and 26 touchdowns. Back-to-back 1,300-yard seasons show he’s the real deal. If the Broncos bring him in, he’ll line up alongside Courtland Sutton and Evan Engram, giving captain Bo Nix a dangerous target. So, who knows this “Nightmare” could prove to be the real nightmare for the opponents?
